Hey great idea! I have a '90 Camry with the 2vz-fe engine (hand-me-down) and I love it too! The engine is in good shape, but it's been through 3 tranny's though. The mechanic who fixed the CV joint forgot to replace the fluid in the first one! Been rebuilt twice and put into reverse going 40 ever since

I love it though. It gets like 21 mpg, and would be really quick if it weren't for the tranny. I too have that sentimental feeling about it

haha! Well I think what Im going to do is buy a new (well ok used) car and use that as my commuter. Then play with my 90 camry just to learn about engines and whatnot. What I want to do to it is completely strip it down, bore out the cylinders, if I can, and reinforce the hell out of everything. Then install a turbocharger and intercooler and performance parts all around! haha, and then to finish it off, add dress-up parts and tube jackets all over . haha, but this will not happen for quite a while... my job sucks and I make peanuts. But anywho, a man can wish!

Ok, question for you; What do you plan on doing for the re-fab of the dash and relocation of the environment controls? Seems like there is not really any other good location for the environmental controls... Anyway could you photoshop what you plan? I want to see this .

Ive been thinking about this quite a bit. Im not sure where i want to put them.. I have the cable run setup, so my options are much more limited as is. I think I will be replacing it all with the automated solinoid driven setup and moving then down with custom dials and what not. Possibly even integrate it into the computer...

I wouldn't integrate it personally... I mean, its cool, but I only put so much trust into my carputer. Even if it never crashes, I'm sure you'll be messing with it, and if you take out your computer, you have no hvac...

ooooooo ok... hmm that would be interesting to see done. however, that would be more trouble than it's worth in my opinion... So that leaves the question on what you plan on doing with the interior? for example, are you going to mod the center console or whatever? I was thinking I might mod the dash/console a bit so that the radio would be pointing more up at me somehow (it's so low and hard to look at while driving). Anyway, just wondering cuz I now have plans on I want to do to my 2nd gen camry.

ok wow, I saw this pic online of a 2nd gen camry with a HOT body kit:
http://www.xs4all.nl/~leger/Camry/Co.../bigcool9.html
only problem is i dont know what kind it is or where I can get one... anyone know?

The body kit is most likely custom. The only two they still make (that i have found) for the 2nd gen is the erebuni ... which it looks like they may have discontinuted. and some other random one i found on ebay. I am going to fab my own, most likely this summer.

Mostly this will be a show car, so i dont mind having the hvac controls integrated into the machine. Mostly this car is a test to see what i can do.

Sorry, but I didn't see the aftermarket alt and 2 deep cycles you're gonna need for all that sound in that equipment list...did I miss it, or is that too small to add? (four 10w6's?....you do realize you're well into what's called "diminishing returns" here, especially in that size car, right? I mean, besides bling value, there's absolutely no reason to do it...and if all you want is bling out of the extra speakers, I'd run only one of the four installed)...I'd say you have about a grand wrapped up in wiring, power, and power regulation for sound alone, and I think I'm being conservative here.

But hey, you do exactly what you wanna do. Life's too short to wonder about what could have been, so long as your family, finances and career are in order, go out and get the things that you want and take on the projects you want to take on.

I love to plan big. I definatly will have a new alterantor.. probably pumping 140 - 200 amps. and probably 3 deep cycle batteries. I think i will end up with 2 subs, most was for bling factor.... which is very silly.

Wiring and such isnt such a problem, because i can get it all through my college for free. Either that or my dad's work place.

Holy crap!! I have been doing a lot of research for upgrading my 4 banger in my camry and, wow, this is cool lol. I can basically turn my 3S-FE engine into a 3S-GTE engine with the stuff I have planned! I will post later with some links, right now I have to go out for a bit!

So I thought I would update everyone on my process so far.
I have done some good hard thinking about everything i want to do, and well looking at it seriously and critically, I am definatly looking to bite off WAY to much than i can chew.

I always do this dream to the extreme and work it down to feisable.
So a preliminary checklist of what I will do to my camry:

1. Complete Rebuild 2.0L 4cyl.
Replacing all gaskets, o-rings, etc. And repiainting the engine &
engine compartment
Swap automatic transmission with manual (also self rebuilt)
2. Make custom intake and exhaust
Aluminum Intake with performance filter
Stainless Steel Exhaust, borla muffler
3. Replace shock package (springs and dampers) possibly drop ride
height by 1"
4. Strip interior & paint panels black & replace liners with fresh black ones
- Fabricate Aluminum door sills & floor mats
- Custom fiberglass door panels, rear deck and dash.
5. Custom fabricate body kit
6. Repaint the car a brighter red.
7. Install a glass roof
8. Install a massive sound system
6 - 3 piece speakers inside the cabin
2 in trunk and 2 10" subs
1 1000w amp for subs
1 4-way amp for interior
1 2-way amp for interior
1 2-way amp for trunk
9. LCDs in the headrests
10. Dual screens in the dash, 1 10.4" master display, 1 6-7" control display
(more details to come)
11. CARPC (DUH!)
12. More odds and ends.

This is still a long laundry list of wants and to-dos, however it is more within my range of resources and financial reach.

I went out driving on sunday with the university car team (we build a small scale formula style autocross car each year) And i got to drive last years car for the first time and DAMN its ******* AMAZING.

The car handles like NOTHING i have ever driven before and the acceleration can't be beat. The little car has a Honda F4i 4cyl Motorcycle engine which puts about 75 horses to the wheels, and the whole car weighs in at just over 500 pounds. It can go from 0-80 in under 4 seconds! and EASILY pulls 3-gs in a turn. DAMN it was amazing...!

now i got to get back to schoolwork.... just thought id let you guys know about my little experience...
