Hey guys.. quick update. I got back from school 5 days ago. I now have a new timing belt in the car and drove it home (and got 3 stiches in the process... totally by accident....) I found out though that the outer front CV boots have sheered... so im going to replace those once things open up and i can get the parts on tuesday....

Other than that not much progress... I do have a preliminary computer sitting next to me, just waiting to be installed....!

Big update guys...!

I have completed the computer and its box. I am waiting on a few more parts and then its getting installed into the car.

The motherboard is pulled from a Dell Optiplex 150 (I picked it out of the trash at school). It has a reflashed BIOS to get rid of all the school branding and passwords (and to add B0 Processor Stepping for the PIII i put in)

Specs:
Intel Pentium III 933MHz CPU
256MB PC100 SDRAM
40GB Fujitsu Laptop Harddrive (with Laptop to Standard IDE adapter)
M1-ATX PSU
Modified VIA USB 2.0 PCI Card

Thats whats housed in the custom home made plexiglas box.

Outside of this there will be the following:
Hollux USB GPS Mouse
Pioneer Slot-Load Dual Layer DVD Burner/Reader
USB Wi-Fi 802.11g
RF Wireless Keyboard and Mouse
USB adapter for the DVD Drive
8" 4:3 (800x600) LCD Panel with TV Tuner and Touchscreen

I am still waiting for the LCD and the Drive adapter to come in the mail and as soon as they do the pc is going into the car.

that's a really pretty case, you made that? any lighting going to go in there?

Yep i made it. The PC is going under the driver seat and there is a blue Neon above it, so although the case itself is not illuminated, you will be able to see the insides.

man, how'd you cut that? really nice job you did there, the silicone might be a little less than 100%, but otherwise it looks really perfect

YEP Blue neon

I scored and cracked the plexiglas. It works great, very similar to real glass cutting. It works on this because its only 1/8" thick stock.

Prior to this, i tried other plexiglas, thicker, and the only way to cut it was using a saw of some sort, and the lines came out wavy as hell.

Its not silicon, its actually specialty hot glue, makes for a nice sturdy structure.

Really looking forward to seeing the continued progress.
Girlfriend had an 89 Camry she loved that finally rusted out on her.
Found her a nice 95 Avalon for the last year.
Now she wants to sell it and get into an 89 Camry?

Simply the worst possible car to install a stereo in. 3.5 inch midrange
firing down at the front of your knee.
Really interested in your fabrication ideas for the front 3-way setup. Thanks.

Yeah the rear deck is nice for the install, the front stock positions arent very good. Im probably going to fabricate door positions for the speakers in the front.

A dremel tool with a cut-off wheel, or better yet, a quick-release and large plastic cut-off wheel, works as well as the "scribe and break" method. Trust me, it will make for smoother, more accurate edges, so long as you use care in how you mark and cut.

I would if i had the proper tools, at school i have really nice precise equipment. but here at home im limited, and by hand no matter how hard you try it ususally comes out wavy. This is the best box ive built yet! But thanxs for the excellent ideas.
