looks good

I do have one question though.

It doesn't appear that you have taken into account the fact that the edges of the dash are actually tapered. Down towards the AC unit the dash actually tapers a bit. If you cut just a rectangular piece of metal to fit there, it won't.

im not certain, but im pretty sure that its just the outside edges that come in towards the bottom. The inner portions of these rails go straight

\! !/ <~~~ kinda like that. Its still square in the inner portions.

yeah i was trying to discern that too, but I started to get a headache, and then i got distracted and then forgot about it.
It does look like it tapers slightly, but it could be one of those optical illusions

it tapers, believe me.

Had to trim down the 1/4" machined aluminum face on my Xenarc 8" to fit it in there.

It is not straight indeed. The frontplate will be mounted to the plate behind it, which will be glued to the side of the dash. During build in, I will decide if I can bend the frontplate, or if straight looks nice.

To be continued...

woah - glued to the side of the dash?

You probably wont want to do that, else you won't be able to get the dash apart.

Have you taken the dash apart yet? You have to take the glove box out and the parts underneath the steering column before you can get the center section out. If you glue something to either side you won't be able to get the dash apart again.

The bend isn't exactly what I was referring to, though the front of the dash does have a slight bend in it, I'm talking about sides....

No, sides are fully straight. The outside of the alu/carbon look pieces is bended, however the inside is straight. (otherwise a radio looks very silly also...).

About the glue, I will glue a mounting bracket with threaded holes to the inside of the dash (where normally the radio slide is mounted), and mount the other parts to the mouning bracket. Once finished, it will be clear.

I guess we're talking about two different areas, because the sides of the radio bezzel are not straight...

either that or I'm just pulling this from thin air....

I'm interested in seeing this project unfold.
