A bit slow for the past few weeks. However, we're starting on the upgrade for the audio this weekend. I'll be ordering the new computer for the car shortly.

Ok - some new updates.

I have purchased the new CarPC:
  • Case:
I went with this case because of the fact that it has a dual pci riser card. Since I'm running the PCI sound card, I need this feature.

  • Motherboard:
MB899 Motherboard. Reason for going with this mobo was that at the time, there were only 4 choices for a mini-itx mobo that can run a core duo processor. The Commell has a PCI express slot, which won't work with this card. The Krontron was the same as this one, only avaliable on new egg...it's just a rebranded board. And the AOpen board doesn't even have a PCI slot. This mobo also has an optical output, which is critical incase this doesn't work and so that I can easily make the switch between the 701 and all processing on the computer.
  • Processor:
    Core Duo 1.83 processor
  • Fan:
    Cooler Master fan
  • Memory:
    1 gig of DDR2 667 memory: Patriot DDR2 667 Ram
  • Hard Drive:
Seagate Barracuda SATA 3, 320 GB drive
  • PSU:
DSATX PSU since the 150 watt Opus that came in the case isn't powerful enough for this set-up.

I'll be running many of the same modules as before.
  • GPS Reciever:
For instance, the ET301 GPS reciever:
  • GPS Antenna:
    With this antenna:

As for the DSATX: I modified the brain stem so that it could be perminately mounted on the outside of the case and connected to the PSU so that I could see real time specs on the PSU:

After pulling the wires out of their sockets on a 4 pin wire, I soldered the pins from the brain stem to the wire:

The cables with the pins in place and the other side without the pins in place.

And with the pins soldered back to the brain stem and heat shrink over it all. Each individual pin is wrapped in electrical tape to ensure no shorting.

Now for the RCA sockets:

Here's the 8 runs or so of Encore II RCA wire from Straight Wire.

Encore II: Encore II utilizes the highest grade of foam insulation for astonishing midrange fidelity. Our most advanced Star-Quad design, Encore II outperforms all other cable designs in this price class and insures high compatibility with nearly all components. Discover the significant improvement a Level 3 cable can make with Encore II wired throughout your system. XLR (balanced termination available)

Cut away the rubber surround and peeled back the protective sheething:

With negative shield peeled back

Center wires exposed:

Center wires twisted together and the ground cable with a piece of heat shrink around it:

The wires solderd to the appropriate pins on the RCA sockets:

Before being heat shrunk:

After heat shrink:

Wiring that will be used for speakers and RCAs:

The Focal Be Tweeters are driven by the front two channels of the STEG 4|01 amplifier (75w/channel). Speaker wire length for these runs are around 15'. The crossover point for these are around 5,000 Hz.

40' of TEF 4/18 – stranded

The Focal 3w2 mid-range drivers are driven off of the rear channels of the STEG 4|01 amplifier (75w/channel). Speaker wire length for these runs are also around 15'. The crossover points for these speakers are around 4,000 Hz - 150Hz.

TPR 2/14 – 40'

The Focal 5" Be midranges are driven off of one STEG 2|02 amplifier (150w/channel). Speaker wire length of this bit is around 12'. The crossover point for these speakers are around 150 Hz to 50 Hz.

TPR 4/14 or Quartet 30'

The Focal 40KX 16" subwoofer is driven off of the other STEG 2|02 amplifier. The sub has dual 2 ohm coils, so we are running the amp bridged at around 1 ohm. This amp was modified by Duane at Orca to make it stable at a 1 ohm load. Speaker wire length is around 6'. The crossover point for this speaker is around 40 Hz and down. Sextet 8'

Encore II Interconnects.

I'll try and get some pics of the Tsunami distribution we'll be using along with how I have everything mounted in the PC case.

Shows around here don't start until april I think. Hopefully I can be ready by may. I've never been to the Daytona Event. That's farther then I am willing to go right now. Well sounds like you guys have your work cutout for you. Goodluck!
