I think monster cable makes decent 1/8" splitters, no?
also red, I've been doing some research to & firewire is much less of a resource hog than usb.... if you do have the choice firewire is the way to go over usb...

Not quite up to par. We're probably going to be contacting Stephen at Straight Wire to have some cables custom made. Want them long enough to go direct to the amps from the sound card for starters...

I don't have fire wire on my PC unfortunately. my options for a MOBO were extremely limited for my other requirements. The firewire was the only option that didn't fit...

put in a PCI-firewire card? I'm considering to do so, since the options on soundcards are VERY limited with usb. The only card that would meet our needs is the ESI GIGAPort AG, but it only has .5v output....

yeah - I can do that....
I'm just running out of space....if I take the sound card out of the PC and use an external, I need somehwere to put it. If I put the firewire card in, I'm losing space where I could put something else...

I'm pretty sure on my setup now. add an extra belking or sweex FireWire PCI card
And probably a terratec aureon 7.1FW.... what do you think, looking at that card?
And I'm sorry to jack your thread! Wont happen again! And meanwhile I maybe set you to think things over?
EDIT: 1 question though..... It's not exactly clear to me how to power that card..... probably gonna need a dedicated PSU, no?
If you want, I'll open up a new topic, but I'm leaving that up to you to decide.

I'm glad I found this thread and my bank account is wishing I didn't...
Just one question Red. With you considering going back to an analogue setup, is this in line with certain people liking the more "live" sound of an LP over the more "processed" sound of a CD?
Good luck with the comps. I live in Tampa, FL so I might be able to make it to Daytona in March.
Good luck!

For whatever reason, our car has always had a live, vibrant sound to it.
It will still have a processed sound beause the initial source is from a CD still. That's not changing.
The sound will all depend on how the opamps make it sound and if the modifications to the sound card work as they should.
We're getting geared up for Daytona right now! Leave out Wednesday night.

Depends on what the wall wart on it says. Might be 12v...if so, just tap into your DC-DC PSU for it.

do they make supplies that add power to the PCI slot? or would you be modifying the board to add in a second line?
and Also wanted to say very cool project. Thinking about this sound card for my project as well.

I'm not going to be using the card, my post was only intended for IC since he was worried about how to power it.
The DC-DC PSUs out there right now would take care of the power issues I would assume.

9volt But it's buspowered, So I would assume, if I have a PCI->FireWire, that has an external PS connection, I can just power it via the firewire...

I think it depends on if you can use a 6 pin firewire cable to power it or not. From my understanding, 4 pin firewire has no extra power with it, but some things will let you use a 6 pin firewire cable to provide additional power. Just an FYI. I have no idea if it will work in your case.

Whats with the terminal strip on the OPUS casing? Are you not using the 6pin Molex on the rear side?
Just curious what those wires are?
Cheers
