I really dont want to jack this thread, but so many Honda guys one one thread I can help it . . .

Has anyone come up with a way to use the steering wheel controls on a CarPC yet?

FYI I have ordered an OEM XM antenna, I'll post the pics to convert it to the XM reciver. (I was in a hurry, took the car through a car wash and up my trunk)

yah, there is a binary input card you can use that you can set NO or a NC switch, IE, if you press the button it loggs it as a open or closed curcet, then software that onverts this via the rs232 that you can program like a game controler.

Then you can actuly use a game controler and unsolder the micro switch from the controler and feed a wire from the steering wheel controle harnes to it and program the game controler to incease your volume and whatever else you want. I'm at work right now so im limited to the things i can go to but i will try to find you a link.

edit, I noticed that you got #0308 i got #0220 lol... had to wait 4 months to get it

i'm actually working on a little more elegant way of doing it. We just got a LabJack at work, and I got the schematics for the Honda steering wheel controls from the Helm ETM. I've been a bit tight on funds lately, the reason for slow progress, but i'm going to be able to do this by reading voltages on the wire that's already coming through the steering column and then use an interface board with 6 transistors (i think that's what i need) to trigger an iPAC. As soon as I get back from my vacation, i'm going to start buying what I need to make it happen.

my setup actually uses the factory amp instead of bypassing it. I'll see if i have a picture of the harness I made for it, otherwise i have to get back there one more time to hook the mac in... i'll take pictures then.

Im not touching the factory amp for warranty reasons, If i touch the amp i lose electrical warranty, on anything that happens, and if i get in a acemdent and total the car they can even go asfar as to deny coverage and screw me over... and as far as the supercharger goes, it just me, it on demand power not like laggy turbos, not to say that you cant get a VGT Turbo with a blow off valve on the exhause to keep it spooled up, but for the oney i think that the superchargers are underrated, they are bigger and they dont make a kit for the civics, when they first came out honda gave out the first 40 to aem, gredy, tien... all the aftermarket companies and i dont remember which but one of them did have a supercharger and a intercooler crammed under the hood, with a high cowl hood on it...

Right now at this moment the only things you can do to it is cams, rockers, flywheel, cam gears, intake manifold gasket(10+hp) send the ecu to hondata and put a turbo on it, the kit your talking about isnt massive power(50-60hp i think) but its a good pick up for the money espesaly if you get a deal, like the whole kit for like 3g's i would pay that, but warranty is more important to me right now

Ya I heard that the s/w controls was just one wire, but I dont know where that wire it is. Even looking at yrean's wire harness there is not a s/w signal wire

If its just voltage differences could you use 2k1Toasters "Fusion Brain" to read the voltages http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/hard...ion-brain.html

BTW Nice install, looks like you've spent a small amount of gold for the eclipse equipment. Cant wait to see it after your done. What plans do you have for the factory speakers? Did I miss how you control the mini? Is the eclipse a touch-screen?

well, i looked into the fusion brain, but again, for windows users only. the mini is not installed yet.

As far as mac control: I had a griffin powermate to control it in the corolla, but the corolla didn't have steering wheel controls either. I don't want those to go to waste in the honda.

There's some serious thought that has to be put in that i haven't yet to figure out how to set up the control set for both the mac and the eclipse, and also how to switch between the two command sets. I have some idea of how to do it, and i have a good diagram of all the components in question. I still have an extra VSA OFF switch which i may use to change command sets.

I think i can pull this off pretty clean, but it's complex and the last thing i feel like doing is having my car in twelve pieces and then finding out something isn't working quite right.

i would have to agree, the install looks good thus far, and the controlls are a big issue, they are there and must get used, persaly i got another of everything, the little piece under the top cluster for my 2X16 display screen, the left dash the right dash, all so i wouldnt have the parts orn apart while painting it also if i chose to sell the car and the guy is a knobe i can piut it all back and sell the carputer to someone more deserving. im sure you'll pull off the controls for the mini and eclips, i dont know jack about mac's but let me know if i can help...

the 50 to 60 hp bump will be more for a turbo in Denver... a stock Si at say 200hp makes about 24% less than that in Denver... so figure 152hp at the flywheel... but a turbo will spin faster due to the lower air density and will make up some of that lost air... figure about 15% losses... so a 260hp turbo'ed car will make about 221hp... so that will be a 50% power gain...

not to mention the slightly lower boost than design, you'll make about 1psi less than the same setup at sea level... so the setup will be safer cause you are barely making 10% over the design setup...

I make 15psi in my 2.0 wrx and with a free flowing cat turbo lag and spool are minimal issues - I make about 2X hp over stock at 2500rpm...!!! on a hot day with the A/C running it used to just fall flat on it's face below 2800rpm... not an issue since the exhaust upgrade... I went from a stock 226hp to about 285hp and the difference is night and day... 0-60 was 5.7sec, now it is closer to 4.5sec... will probably do the turbo swap this summer...

anyway, things are coming along pretty smooth their "gohybrid"... I've been so distracted lately with other projects that the car has been neglected... built an arcade and am finishing that up over the next week or so - it is over the top...

http://www.supercircuits.com/index.a...OD&ProdID=4237
http://www.palmvid.com/content/categ...=live_demo#tab
despite the cost of the last one... the imaging in the dark areas of the demo room is pretty freaking cool.

I have a lot of experience with the cameras from SuperCircuits, they are great quality, their office and showroom is also 30 minutes from me I have been by and they are nice.
The first two camera's there have a FOV of 70 degrees (Measured corner to corner) The 3-lux camera will not be able to see anything after sundown. The 1-lux won't be able to see at night without light assisting it.

The 823 model camera costs a bit more, but is by far the best camera I have ever used. http://www.supercircuits.com/index.a...OD&ProdID=5684
It has a 110 FOV rating, a 0.05 lux low light rating, and more lines of resolution. You can also get a pin-hole version which may make it easier to hide, weatherproof and clean.
I have one of these as my rear view camera (still in the works) but I have install two of them at my neighbors house, and it can very well at night.
If you want really good low light you can get a Sony HAD camera with a 0.003 LUX rating. I have one of these as my front door camera on my house, it comes in a weatherproof bulletcam case.. It also has a wide angle, but is black and white.
Here are a few photos from that camera:

I have the ebay camera, it was lieke $60... it is advertised as 110 deg FOV, but I measure it to be 65 degrees... but it is self illuminated... uses RCA for the video feed...

keep in mind that no matter what setup you use, dirt will always be getting on the lens, so plan on having to wipe the lens at least every gas fill up... it would be slick if there was a way to mount it behind a window with a wiper...

NM i found it on the 3d view of the us model SI, its on the left hand window controle console.. that unfortunetly wont work cuz i have a handle in the way there... unless i can make it work, also those tro extra buttons on the steering wheel look handy, those could make for good function keys of some kind... Hmmm...

One Step Forward, Three Steps Back...

I was awakened by a knock on the door at my apartment at 3:30 this morning from a friendly Greenwood Village police officer who informed me that my car had been broken into.

This is what followed:

I have to say, i am just heartbroken. I just had an awful breakup with my girlfriend of two years, and this car, this project was my salvation...

otherwise i could think of nothing but the pain of what happened between me and her.

It's just a hobby i know, but i poured my soul into this. I took pride in it. Then someone in just a few short moments of selfish and cowardly behavior just destroys all my efforts.

As I mentioned in another thread, the only real way to protect yourself is to insure everything... which i had done. So this will all get fixed... but it's just not something you can take to circuit city and get done right.

Anyway, thanks to everyone for your input and comments on my project so far... i always appreciate when someone takes the time.

The car and I will both get through this, hopefully sooner rather than later.
