All good information, but let me tell you this.

I drive a Subaru. All Wheel Drive. Mine has an immobilizer in it, so it's hard to steal. However, there are documented instances of cars being stolen anyway. How? The fricking thieves drag it onto a flatbed. All you have left is the skid marks where the car tried to resist.

If they want it bad enough, they'll get it. This is why we pay the mob... er... insurance companies every month. You pay for coverage for a reason.

God, this is making me paranoid.

Insult to Injury.

Just when I thought the worst was over... i get a tow truck driver who was more than willing to take chances with my car.

The insurance company sent him to pick up my car and take it to the collision center for repair. The parking structure it was parked in has a low clearance so i told them to bring a suitable truck for it... so they send a guy with a flatbed. I don't know how stacking a car on top of a truck for a low clearance situation is a good idea, but hey, i'm not the towing specialist.

I even see he has the right kind of tow bar to just lift it by the front wheels and do it right... but instead lifts just the front wheels on the flatbed, levels the bed, the car is pointing 45 degrees up to the sky, unsecured and hanging by the winch. As he pulls away, other drivers in the garage are waving at him to let him know he's dragging my tailpipe along the ground:

and then he tries to take a turn to descend to then next level, and realizes the car just wants to go straight, and it goes straight into the edge of the flatbed which caved in my rocker panel. It's much worse under the car than you can see from the side... but still:

I'm just waiting for Chip Foose to jump out from behind a bush and tell me this was all a big prank and that my turbocharged civic is waiting for me at the shop.

**** this.

does this mean that your new exhaust and body package is on order?
J/K...

well some people are just plain stupid, the good thig is that the insurance covers this too, the bad is that this extends you fix time another week, make sure to push for new exhaust and if they dont give it to you i have a 3 month old set laying in my shed... , its yours if you want but you have to drive the 3000miles though...

Again the stupidity and lack or foresight amazes me, this same crap nearly happened to me too, i forced the gut to lower the car down so my pipe wont get ripped off...

PB- i think one day your avatar is going to lick a hole through my screen and spill green everywhere.

anyway... it did get to the shop and they're gonna take care of everything... I'm just gonna have to drive Piglet (My rental HHR) for awhile.

On a more serious note though: i really appreciate all the support you all have shown me. Life has had a tendecy to lay it on pretty thick for me lately, and it really warms my heart to come here and mingle with like minds. So truly, thank you.

In the meantime, while i'm deciding what to do for myself, if any of you colorado dwelling people want to stop by my shop sometime and make stuff for your car, or if out of towners want help with a project, just PM me and we'll work on it. Regardless of whether i decide to build up my own car again, i do know that if i'm not fabricating something, i'm going a little crazy.

for all your troubles and woes, you get a lick from my av. kitty, it makes ALL feel better.

Today i turned my cameras back on and found one was dead(thanks for makeing me feel paranoid), i had them off now sitting there for show for half a year.

PM me if and or WHEN you start a new project, I'll be restarting mine again soon.... i hope.

I'll fed-ex you my dash so you dont go crazy, that way I'll be done.

sorry to be bombarding your thread, check out "2001 Mitsubishi Spyder GTPC" in the show off your ride section, he did what you should do, he got his crappy HU and glued all the buttons on to it and used it like a faceplate on his screen...

i don't know what the fog light switch is like, but the VSA switch i used is as follows:

Pins 1-2 are contacts for the momentary switch
Pin 3 is not used
Pins 4-5 are power for the switch illumination. I don't seem to remember these being polarized. In any case, i think the illumination + is red/silver and illumination - is gray/silver in the civic. Experiment with those.

yah, the dingbats at honda told me that the fog light switch costs $900, well you get the switch with the lights and the harnesses, well i can get oem lights from ebay for $100 and it comes with the harness. so I plan to use this switch with a variety of relays to run my custome fog lights...

Ever see the new volvo trucks?, well they have prijection lights on the fron and i tore a few apart fom crash jobs and took the projection part out ^_^, So free is better then having to pay right?

its me again, umm can you please tell me why you put those diodes in a loop like that on pins 4 and 5?, i dont see why it there?

they are just for the light so dont they get direct power?

thanks for the reply... and i cant figure out what the damm 3rd pin is for?, it has no resistance across and other terminal and no continuity, why would there be a dead pin?

dude, I am just now seeing this... this is total crap dude, I can't stand a friggin thief... I feel your pain... once I got my entire system jacked while I was at church!!! and another time I came back to my Porsche and the ignition was jacked, cause someone tried to start it with a screwdriver...

I think getting out of those apartments is a good idea, time for you to house shop... DEFINITELY get a garage...

hopefully by now things are looking up for you, we all go through runs of low... it helps us keep perspective on when life is good, you'll be in our prayers for the bits of sunshine that you are due...

There's a good chance i was drunk when i made that diagram. I've updated it. I tested it with my multimeter and it doesn't show up as a diode normally would, so it's either just a regular bulb or there's some sort of rectifier built in... i have no idea. I just know it works and it's about 35 ohms across those two terminals... may very well be a bulb.

The 3rd pin may be used in other applications, just not this one... sometimes it's just cheaper to leave it in than try and take it out when you don't need it.

also -thanks matt-> i've put a deposit down on a house with a 2 car garage... so hopefully i'll be able to get financing for it. I'll keep everyone posted.

Nice. Garages rule. I'll never buy a house without one. I wish I live in CO. Alabama sucked. Moved to Michigan, and it sucks, too.

What's the status on the repairs? When do you start the project again?
