Still sandning......

It's getting better and better

Sanded of the paint form yesterday, and added some bondo to the places needed, especially the "recess" was removed (it looks 100 times better now!)

Some sanding now with the finer grains...

First layer of Primer, it's taking shape!

Seriously I think I'm gonna need a few layers of this, and a bit of sanding with the finest grains I have (600) and that's it!

Stay tuned

Almost there with the bezel...

I wanted to try to put in the screen, and guess what the paint wasn't entirely dry so I ****ed it up a bit.. I'm gonna paint it again and see how it looks, this time I'll let it dry for at least 24hours

Taking the screen apart, and gluing the print for the remote to the back

Now I think it's there! Here goes:

I did some scrubbing on the plastic covers, to remove this silly protection layer, or whatever it is! As a bonus the color of the plastic became a bit darker, it almost is identical to what I've painted

Now for mounting the screen, it's tight!

Here it's in, testing with my reverse cam

Stay tuned, I'll start mounting in the car soon

Sorry for the lack of updates, I've been busy playing with my newly installed carputer!!! This is soooo great! A few pics of where I'm at now...

First boot! The car is still in a million pieces!

got the car more or less put together again, and booted up with roadrunner, gotta love that frontend! Here with standard skin

Got another skin, digifx, it's great!

How my trunk's been looking for a week

I'm working on it

So far I'm REALLY pleased! The software is a bit hard though, you really need to read up before starting anything, at least that's how I feel

A few more pics of the screen, the difference in color is much more drastic on photos than in real life, you hardly see it when you're in the car. Think it's due to the flash of the camera / my tinted windows...

I've put a USB hub in the glovebox (one would think it was made for that ), I've got 12V for the screen from the OPUS here too. I took a 5V from the OPUS too, will use it for the hub later on if needed.

Doing the cabling on the MDF plate

Here everything is mounted in the trunk! Now I just need to find some carpet and close it all up Please, if you've heard nothing from me in a weeks time it means that I didn't get off my ***, so remind me!!!

i have a question, i dont know if its too late, but can you measure the height of the screen after you cut off the front buttons? i have a very limited amount of space, and i can never find pics/measurements of the front buttons relocated.

Sorry, I put it in the car a few weeks ago, I can't really measure iut without dismantling... Guess you'll be taking off something like 1cm in the height, maybe a bit more. look here: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/lcd-display/81695-lilliput-629gl-2005-vs-eby701-np-c-t-not-56k-friendly.html

Or do a search yourself, I'm sure you'll find more. Basically you should be able to reduce the size to roughly the size of the LCD.

So, I'm back!

No more holidays, finished redoing my apartment, finished making our terrace, guess I'm out of excuses for not restarting my carputer project! I've been enjoying it for months now, everything works perfectly!

I just finished up the trunk, or at least got started

I managed to hide the GPS in the front of the car, it didn't work in the back, the signal was too low. I put it in the side beams, woks great, and you can't see it

What I'll start working on now is:

Reconnecting the light in the trunk, as well as the 12V connector I used to have - Shouldn't be to hard

Find a GPS application that works, which isn't that easy... Any input is appreciated on this point!

Make the antenna for the SILABS USB radio.

Figure out WHY I've got noice on my system, and figure out how to deal with it.. It's SO annoying

Thanks for watching

Thumbs up

Wee! I found out why I had noise on my system, it was my wifi PCI card. Logic when you think about it. I connected it to the ground of the amplifier, and everything is fine!! Of course I only found this after having tested every other part, but that's part of the game I guess!!

I've added a fan, 12v outlet, light and the thingy to attach stuff (Only for looks, cause it's not attached too well)

That's it for now! Damn it's nice to have no noise anymore, it was soooo annoying...
