Exclamation Let's clear up some things

First off MCE 2k5 is it's own OS. It is windows xp pro with the media center application on top. This can't be simply copied because of the dll hooks into the system. There IS a trial copy which I have and yes you can look for the 5 in 1 or 8 in 1 iso...they're out there trust me http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/newr...te=1&p=238941#
Google. Finally you do not REQUIRE special hardware to run it. You just won't get all the functianality of it. The hardware that M$ is talking about is for the tv tuner and fm tuner. Hauppage makes a pvr150 for instance which is great. They also make a pvr150 mce...marketing ploy? nope, same pcb pretty much but different drivers are required for both. Otherwise never got into the exact differences of the cards. I can't post an 800meg cd image for download but am willing to help people and mail it (btw I know I said 800 and not 700 so don't respond questioning the size if I recall it's 815mb). If this is a dead issue let it be but if anyone wants more info hit me up otherwise http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/newr...te=1&p=238941#

i have built a number of media centers all of which were a pain. you have to have the right software/hardware for it to work.

eg. dvd decoders - not just any only 2 are verifed old version of powerdvd and nvidia.

dont even get started on the bugs still in it, some have been fixed from 2004 to 2005 but still contain alot. they need to widen the use of hardware compaitibilty. products can be expensive. and you have to have a powerful computer to do many of the tasks. at least 3ghz with 1gig of ddr ram

Angry

I actually like 2004 over 2005 as 2005 doesn't show all my albums.

ok, i know this is pretty much a dead thread. but for anyone who cares:

I'm running Windows MCE 2005 on my pc. i find it a pretty good system and i think a lot of others agree (for one, if you dont like the MCE part of it...you DO have XP Pro) as for the whole MCE Interface. i find it pretty good (i give it a 8 out of 10)

The EASIEST way to purchace one is to go to an online PC store (http://www.zipzoomfly.com is my personal fav.) They sell OEM software (which is what MCE is). some require to purchace hardware with it...but TECHNICALLY a serial cable is hardware (thats what i used) so if you wanna grab a copy. go ahead.

As for a test run, contact me and i'll go ahead and set up my MCE PC for Remote Desktop. i have no problem giving a test run to people who want it.

Drew
