windows xp media center edition

Has anyone seen or played with win xp media center edition....its windows xp pro with a real cool media center. the media center would be cool for an mp3 car interface. If you dont know what im talking about...check out microsofts site.

the problem is you cant buy this version of windows....it comes pre installed on certian pre built computers. i have acess to one of these computers, but dont know how to rip that part of the software off the machine. If anyone has any ideas...lemme know!

Here is a picture http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/m...ediacenter.htm

That would be great in a CarPC. It's program you run off Windows XP, So I would think you can just copy all the files. But it might need specific hardware.

i have played with it quite a bit...it is awesome....i copied all the files in the program folder....dumped them on another pc, and try to open the program and it gives me an error message.
if anyone is good at figuring out the missing files or error messages, i can send you the program so you can mess with it.

To reply to the previous comment...im sure it does need specific hardware to supprot the tv tuner and remothe control, but the video, music, pictures and dvd sections should work.

Or if anyone has any ideas on how to re create it with desktop x, that would be cool too.

thanks!

no luck....i ghosted the drive and it wont boot in my computer (too many hardware changes, so i put my drive back in as well as the gosted wp medai center and tried to open the program and it said "strong name validation failed for assembly...the file may have been tampered with or it was partially signed but not fully signed with the correct private key" (whatever that means)

Any ideas?

Doesn't it come with a cd just in case the software gets deleted or damaged. It's a program that runs off Xp right? So maybe you can copy the drive using demon tools to make a virtual drive, transfer that to your CarPC and use demon tools to make a virtual drive than try running it. Or Just add (do not remove the one in there already) the harddrive with the media center into your CarPC computer , see if it runs. If it does than you can make virtual hardrive and delete unnessisary files. Very wierd to understand what i said but try.

nice idea...wont work. it is an hp computer im trying to get this from. They dont use a cd, the but the backup image on a hidden partition. now getting to that abckup partition is not a problem, but there is two issues with that....first, the image uses some special program to extract it and the second problem is that even if i could extract it...it will not install on any pc other than that hp...it can sense the computers hardware.

anyways...im at a loss, any other ideas?
