Standby/Hibernate not available - XP Media Center 2004

Just installed xp media center 2004 on my via m1000, and I don't see standby or hibernate as available options in the power sub menu under display. Normally I'd expect under the advanced tab there being a check box which says "enable hibernation support", but thats not there. Nor is there the option to go into standby mode in the "when i push the power button" drop down menu. ACPI is enabled in the bios and the driver is loaded for it under the computer sub-menu.

Anyone have any idea as to why?

Remember that Media Center is pretty picky about the hardware it will run on. Are the drivers that you have for the mobo MediaCenter specific, or XP/2000 drivers? You could be dealing with a problem where the drivers are enough for Windows to operate most of the board functions, but ACPI is completely unsupported with that version of Windows and the drivers you are using.

MCE is a pain in the arse as far as I'm concerned. The idea of turning Windows into a media-specific OS was a good idea, but implemented very haphazardly. Personally, I think you might be better off using XP (Home or Pro), and using LiteStep as the shell. That way you can download or create your own shell that does everything MCE does, without worrying about all the stupid hassles.

Figured it out, the drivers for the video card were not installed ;P. Just got my opus and I'm playing around with hibernate-wow pretty fast on time with a seagate 120 8MB cache HD attached.

Media Center hasn't been as much of a pain to me..

Thanks,
-Jason
