Use more than one GPS device? A port splitter allows you to take a single GPS receiver, and send that information to multiple virtual com ports for use by other applications. One of the most popular, is Xport. You can download Xport by clicking here.

If you are using a GPS Application, such as iGuidance, Map Point, Destinator etc, and want something else to access the GPS (such as statistics or gauges in a frontend) you need a GPS Splitter

• To set up multiple com ports to use with different programs at the same time, first install Xport. (In the following example, we will use com ports 5 & 6, you may need to change those if they are already in use on your system)
• First, start Xport. Now set the input com port to the port you GPS receiver is ACTUALLY ON, in this example I will use Com 1.

NOTE: If you don't know, open device manager, and then expand the com ports tree. Looking at the com ports, unplug the GPS receiver, and one will disappear, wait a few seconds and plug the GPS back in, the port that appears is your actual gps port, put that in the top box.

• In the lower part of Xport, Check "Enable Service" then, under OUTPUT set up the virtual com ports you would like to use, in this case, ports 5 & 6. You are done with Xport now. If you have "Enabled Service" checked, you can close the window with the X in the top right, and it will just minimize to the system tray. If you do NOT have the service enabled, closing the program will actually close the program.

• Now Put Port 5 in the program's GPS config, and port 6 in the other program's GPS config. Now your REAL COM port is split to two virtual ones, as you see you can have many more than just 2 com ports set up in Xport.

• if iGuidance is taking a long time to get a lock, even though you have a strong lock, This seems to be an iG3 issue. I have found two things that have helped with this, if you are using a Delorme receiver, with the Delorme serial splitter, try setting the port for iGuidance to RAW. This solved the problem with my receiver completely in my case.
• If that does not work, then give XPort a try, as that fixed the issue as well.
• The only reason I know these are both "Fixes" is I purchased a MS branded Pharos GPS device and put it in the car, and replaced the Delorme serial splitter with Xport, and now I have a lock faster than I can get to the iG screen when RR does a cold boot. It immediately starts tracking.
• I moved the Delorme to my dev machine and had the same problem with iG not getting a location, even though the Delorme utility reported 8 satellites locked. I just started trying things, and set the port for RR to RAW in the Delorme serial splitter, and INSTANTLY iG got a lock, and does so every time now if the receiver itself gets a lock.
• Not real sure what the technical reason is, but I would assume that iGuidance does not like the info tampered with at ALL, and prefers the straight raw info.
• These are just a couple things to try if you are having some issues with iGuidance getting a lock.
