Loading a mappoint map with Avoidance Areas

From MP3Car.com Wiki

This information applies to version 1.1.0.1 and later of StreetDeck.

[edit] About Avoidance Areas

Avoidance areas in mappoint allow you to specify regions that the routing engine will avoid when creating a route. StreetDeck can use maps created in mappoint that contain avoidance areas to alter the roads that StreetDeck will use when routing. Note that the portion of the road that travels through an avoidance area will be completely removed from consideration in routing as if that part of the road didn't exist at all. This means that if the avoidance areas make it impossible to create a route, routing will fail altogether.

A map file and therefore avoidance areas can only be specified when starting streetdeck. You can not specify an avoidance area inside the StreetDeck GUI or change the map file once StreetDeck has started. The avoidance areas in the loaded map file should be active until you restart StreetDeck without specifying a map file.

[edit] Using Avoidance Areas

To use avoidance areas in StreetDeck, you must use Microsoft Mappoint or Microsoft Streets and Trips to make a map that has one or more avoidance areas. After adding the areas you want to avoid to the map, you should chose File | Save to save the file to a .PTM file.

To load the map with the avoidance areas in StreetDeck, use the command line parameter -Map:<Map FileName> where <Map FileName> specifies the full path of the .PTM file you created earlier.

[edit] Example

Assuming you have a file name C:\Users\StreetDeck\Test.ptm, you would load it in StreetDeck in windows by going showing the Run dialog in windows off of the Start menu and putting in the following in the Run dialog, be sure to include the quotation marks:

"C:\Program Files\StreetDeck\StreetDeck.exe" -Map:"C:\Users\StreetDeck\Test.ptm"
