Mp3Car.com was originally founded nearly a decade ago in 1998. MP3 music files were emerging as the hot new trend among computer geek circles. A couple of computer geeks in decided that it would be cool if they could play these new music files in their cars. At that time there were no portable MP3 players such as the iPod on the market so the only way to play MP3 files was to stick an entire computer on the car. A community called Mp3Car was formed and a messages board opened that that geeks could exchange ideas on how best to install computers in their cars. Over the years, as LCD prices have dropped, members of the community started using the computers installed in their cars for other purposes such as GPS navigation, mobile phone integration, WiFi sync, other infotainment etc.
