Thread: Win98 and USB2

Well 98 was released before USB 2.0 obviously so support for it is probably minimal. You might be able to find third-party drivers for 98 to get USB 2.0 to work but I don't know that M$ supports it (mainly due to them wanting you to upgrade).

Also is the hardware you're using (both the usb port and the usb device) USB 2.0? Because if not that would do it too...

I'm sure they are usb2. Useing em everyday... (with win xp)

But even if i manage to get a win98 usb2 driver, is that driver implementable to a win98 bootfloppy? I think it only uses standard drivers?

What I can't figure out is why you need the boot floppy. You're just doing a backup correct? So if you are using Norton Ghost just boot the norton ghost CD and then go through their backup procedures and copy to the USB drive. You shouldn't need a boot floppy for doing so.

There are also free-ware versions of Norton Ghost (not as savvy) but do the job. You may want to look into those if you can't get Norton Ghost to work (although you should try to get Ghost working first).

Well, I've got a Norton Ghost BootFloppy... Thats the problem...

Actually my carpc doesn't even have a floppydrive, but i have copied a Win98 bootflyppy and the ghost files to a cd, whitch i boot from...

Oh alright I see what you're doing. What version of Norton Ghost are you using? If you have an older version that could be doing it as well. Well no it should still work as long as all your hardware is USB 2.0. I guess your best bet is to make sure you are actually running USB 2.0. (Maybe check BIOS to see if it's enabled on boot or something).

That's all I got, sorry man . I would however try and use the newest version and boot Ghost from the CD.

I'm useing Ghost 2002. I'm sure, I copy files at normal usb2 speed inside windows, and WinXP thinks its usb2.

Well, I've got me a copy of norton ghost 9, and it works good =) (since you can take a backupcopy of your os drive inside windows)

I haven't tested booting from the cd and replaceing the partition, but i will some day =P
