    I'm going NUTS! ewfntldr

    Hi all,

Trying to get horm working, downloaded the latest XPe ewf stuff from here but i cannnot get the system to boot using the replacement ntldr. It's driving me insane. read-only, hidden, rename in something else, rename it back, stab it, ARRRRRG. It just sits after the bios and doesn't load the os.

    Thanks for any help,
    Sam

Ahh well, must have been a corrupted file.

Downloading the latest ewfntldr from a different source fixed the problem.

Even though a hex editor decided the two versions were bit-by-bit identical, one worked and one didn't. Great, that's hours of my life i want back ;-)

if you have a second hard drive, its probably somewhere on there, and not on the HDD your OS is installed on. some BIOS are ****in retarded and need to fix that. especially if you are using one SATA HDD and an IDE HDD. i thought mobo manufacturers fixed this problem...

I've only got one hard drive, but it's partitioned...I've searched the whole thing, but can't find it...

I did check the c:\windows\system32 directory, but am not seeing ntldr...everything seems to be functioning, but the file just isn't there!

I'm trying to set up the whole EWF/HORM thing, and I've got to replace the existing ntldr with a renamed ewfntldr...should I just copy the file over to system32 and rename it? do you think that will work?

the only thing I can think of is that I'm using XP pro when everyone else is using XP, but I don't see how that would make a difference

here...try this...go to your system32 directory and at the top of the screen, you will see "Tools" on the toolbar. click on that and select "Folder Options"...then when that opens up click on the "View" tab...from there, you need to check the bubble that says "view hidden files and folders"...

now you should be able to see it...

and XP and XP PRO are the same thing....people dont normally use XP home because it has some major problems...M$ crippled that OS...not to mention, XP Pro can be downloaded in about 20 minutes using bittorrent...and keys can be found everywhere...

ntldr is the set of instructions windows uses to bootup...at least part of it...hence "NT LOADER"

I've already got that option checked...but still can't see the file...
I copied ewfntldr into system32 and renamed it to ntldr and windows didn't seem to mind (no error or anything saying there was already a file with that name)
    I've run out of ideas
