Anything configured to look for updates on the internet, eg, Virus scanner, Windows update, JVM, etc?
hi guys... i'm new here...
about a week ago i started working on installing my new car pc...
all is working right
* windows sp2 updated
* removed services
now, when i start windows, no matter what program i run or what i do...
after about ten minutes, pops a window with the title "work offline"
and the message
"no connection to the internet is currently available.
to view internet content that has been saved on your computer,
click Work Offline"
i have two choises:
"work offline" and "try again"
i even configured that the network dosent have any internet connection.
and the computer isn't connected to any network.
how can i solve this ?
Open internet explorer. In the "Tools" drop down menu, select "Internet Options". Under the "connections" tab, be sure "Never dial a connection" is selected. Click the "LAN Settings" button. If "Automatically detect settings" is unchecked, Check it. If it is checked, uncheck it, restart internet explorer, then check it again.
(it's unselectable... in grey... you know)
i checked "auto detect" in LAN settings...
and... didn't help...
same wierd message after about 10 minutes...
even after restart...
please... someone... help!
hmm... I missed the part about it coming up randomly. Something is obviously trying to access the internet and can't. Double check your startup programs by running "msconfig" from the "Run" dialog. If you don't see anything that you think might be it, you may have some adware on your computer. I'd imagine you did a lot of protection free browsing while getting things set up. Try downloading Ad-Aware. It's a free spyware scanner. Run it and see if it finds anything.
I assure you it's not random.
There is some application or driver or updater trying to access the internet, or at least an IP-based network.
Does FFDShow or the nVidia codecs have auto-updaters?
You might consider looking at what you have in startup locations (Startup folder, registry) and see if there's something there that tries to access the 'net.
Also, could your CF skin have some 'net-based weather or a CD player app that pulls info from CDDB perhaps?
Just thinking through my keyboard.
hmmmm.... good stuff...
i'm going to check the registry for startup cr*p
and i'm going to run ad-aware.
when i first configured my carpc i got connected to the internet without any protection.
maybe it's spyware...
going to report back soon
by the way... thanks for everything
i scanned with ad-aware i searched the registry and the problem exists...
maybe it's a virus...
anyone know an online free virus scanner that CAN fix viruses ?
You can try actually connecting the PC to the interweb and see what is trying to download. Then, once it is updated, whatever it is, the message might go away...
Just a thought.
