me as well.
the payoff for having an antivirus solution vs. resources consumed, and considering how often you'd be connected to the net while you're driving doesn't really add up.

The only network my car PC connects to is mine at home. No foreign network means no need (in my world)

ok, it seems like most connect only at home, what about us who connect at say starbucks and what not. how about just a firewall? a low resource one that is free?

what about outpost firewall, I use the internet quite a bit on my car pc and I dont realy need an anti-virus i guess but a firewall would make a bigger difference. Or would most use the built in windows one and use an anti virus or no anti-virus at all even though u access the internet. I have seen videos of computers (xp) that have no av or anything and were just taken over idling. so I dont want that to happen. But i want to free up resources. So I am a stuck.

i use nod at home as well, very nice bit of kit, very unobtrusive and doesn't seem to slow things down.

Same here there is no need for anti virus or firewall endless you are on the net constantly.I dont even run sp2 yet .The less the better

bump. What is everyone using, if anything at all on their carputers. I would do rare if any net surfing on my carputer, but will need updates for drivers and software etc. and being unprotected scares me, whether i'm justified in being scared or not.

I would try trend officescan 8.0 and up or Zonealarm as mentioned tweaked [removed]via the registry @ HKLM/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/run or MSCONFIG uncheck it on the startup tab

there is absolutely no reason to be using anti-virus in a carpc unless you plan on downloading porn while driving.... it only slows everything down
