Win98 was July 2006 : http://support.microsoft.com/gp/lifean18
I know because I just rebuilt my Win98SE carpc.
Old Systems retired due to new car
New system at design/prototype stage on BeagleBoard.
Ah, what you heard was OEM availability. (Direct OEM and Retail License Availability (end date)) June 30th, 2008.

Don't think that has anything to do with support as they are about to release SP3 (already in pre-release. I have it!)
My opinion is my own.
Was? Still is? Hence why I'm rebuilding with the same OS.
It runs great. My original install had a 22Mb windows zip file uncompressed to ramdrive and booted from there (17 seconds from power to music).
Just rebuilding it with DirectX8 (instead of 9 - better for my video drivers) and Ogg support. In the process of stripping all the rubbish out to make it small again. All going on an 8Gb flash disk-on-module - no hard drive any more.
My setup that died in 2005 was DOS 6...!
