number pad logon for xp?

i would like to leave some info saved on my carputer, but i am too worried about it being stolen. in such event, the thief would have plenty of info. i would like to have a number pad logon for the windows logon screen. or for the system to immediately go into a locked mode and need a so many digit pin to unlock. till then, i wont have any info saved. its just a PITA when you need to type something in and you cant really.

this just popped into my head, but maybe an RF key dongle that wont let the computer boot without it in the near presence. or even a usb key that wont let the car start without it plugged in. oh security security security... features i want that probably dont exist.

i dont see anything that looks useful. im guessing that what i am thinking of is a custom thing. relting more the the carputer community. i guess ive gotten to use to the "slide to unlock" and the passlock keypad on my iphone.

You asked for numeric keypad, it has numeric keypad.

You asked for USB dongle, it has USB dongle (although admittedly it won't prevent the car starting without additional hardware and software)

And if you have one it can use a fingerprint scanner (MS one only at present)

It also has the ability to record Audio (if you have a mike) or Video (if you have a webcam)

why don't you use the windows log on password?

The downside to password protecting the OS is it will need it every boot, and when used as an entertainment system that sucks. So why not password protect the data you are storing, that's the easiest approach, and it will only require doing when you work on and save that data.

With AccessControl, if you have set up a USB key, you can just leave that plugged in and it will automatically bypass the key input.

maybe i could do some kind of RF receiver. comp will only boot when fob is in range. i want to prevent someone from accessing my info if they were to acquire my carputer.

TBH if someone gets hold of your carputer all they need to do is slave the HD in another PC to get any info off.

The only way to prevent that is have your data encrypted on there.
