    quick, newbie friendly, 2000lite tutorial

    http://home.earthlink.net/~vorck/2ksp3.html
there you go. it covers everyting and has already done the work for you. But there's way to much text. So i'll break it down.

    1. Copy the whole windows 2000 cd to the hd
all you do is goto my computer and right click on the w2k cd (d:/) and click explore. Now your browsing the cd without having the cd autostart program start.

Hit control+a all of the files and folders are selected. Now ctrl+c to copy. Goto the c:/ drive create a temp folder. go in the temp folder. ctrl+v to paste. This process takes a while. Go make a sandwich and come back when it's done.

    2. Get the pre-modded w2k files
    Download Vorcks premodded w2k files
He already gone through all the work of making 2000lite. His cd removes almost anything that has to do with the internet and windows entertainment/games. His cd also doesn't have sndvol32.exe. This program is the volume mixer. So you'll have to download a freeware sound mixer off the net if you want to lower the volume.

    3. Replace the orginal files with the modded ones
Simple. Just extract the modded files to the i386 directory in your temp folder. When it prompts you to overwrite, click yes to all. duh.

Now you have Vorcks version of 2000lite. Thank Vorck for all of his hard work

At this point I advise you to make an "EXTRAS" folders that will contain all the programs and extras of your choice. Winamp, wallpapers, sample mp3s, divx, powerdvd, drivers, ect, ect. You can put alot in the extras folder cuz the w2k cd is only half filled with setup files. The rest is free space.

    4. Now you need to turn 2000lite thats on your HD into a boot disk
You will need nero and the boot image
    Goto this site
    http://www.bink.nu/Bootcd/default.htm

Follow the boot disk instructions carefully. It really takes no time at all. If you don't want to slipstream any Service Packs skip the steps that pertains to the Service Packs.

If you dont want to slipstream ServicePacks scroll down to where you see "Boot Files" and follow the nero instructions on how to make a boot disk.

    5. Restart you computer and boot from cd
Dont forget to label your cd.

Should this be sticky? Anyways tell me what you guys think. I want to know if any1 else has a custom cd. And what did you put in your EXTRAS folder

Another easy way is to do a multisession, unfinalized cd copy and replace the needed files on the cdrw. This is great if you want to edit your boot cd after you burned it, or if you dont have the hd space to copy the whole cd.

It is very possible to do it with xp. No one has premodded the files yet though. There are people that say xp wont work without ie, but thats a load of crap. if litepc.com is making xplite, than xp works fine without ie

    I didn't have an increase. I had a decrease.
    With hibernation off = 12sec
    With hibernation on = 3-6sec
Time it takes to go into hibernation = 3-6sec
Post to boot time (after tweaked bios) = 6.24sec (used bootvis to get this #)

I like to have hibernation off cuz it'll take longer for my linksys wireless g router to kick in if i use hibernation
