How'd you get hibernation to work in VirtualPC???? Even on a full WinXP install the option just doesn't show up for me. Anyways, I don't think you can trim the size of the hiberfil.sys file. It'll always be about the size of your RAM I think. I've been able to get an nLite install down to about 400MB with minimal tweaking so I'm hoping with more research I can get it even smaller. Did you disable windows file protection, clear out the prefetch directory, and look at other tweaks on the nlite boards?

My CF-IDE adapter will arrive on Wednesday, but I have yet to receive a tracking number for my CF card so I don't know if I'll get to test this out this week or not...

it wasn't showing up for me either... that is it wasn't in the regular place, when I went to control panel, then power options, it was there all along

I didn't try any of the tweaks unfortunately, just trimming the stuff out with the gui, cause I'm lame like that... But I'll definately look into it...

I've got everything working with my nlite install. What can I delete after the installion is over? I got rid of the system, help, web and system32\oobe directories.
What else can I get rid of?

I spoke to soon, apparently it was a fluke that hibernation showed up for me... after that install I did 3 other xp nlite os installs and none of them have it.... I wonder if it has anything to do with specifying xp when you set up the VM or not? Dunno what all you can strip out... I'm having issues now where I have the machine setup (not in Virtual PC, but on my via machine), hibernation is there, but apparently I removed something that allows me to activate windows... ugggh

Yeah, but I don't see any mention of OOBE during the nlite component selection... any ideas on what dependencies OOBE might have?

Sorry, but I don't know... check the nLite boards I know I've seen people ask about that I think.

Also for anyone planning to use EWF, here are some links with some good information:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...riteFilter.asp
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...mpactFlash.asp

When you're looking through those links keep in mind that we're using the "RAM Reg overlay" method. There's also a good section in there about improving EWF performance. Some of it has been covered already, but other stuff like disabling prefetch, auto defrag, etc. is good to know. The second link is on deploying the OS to CF. This is written for XP Embedded, but it applies to XP+EWF as well.

In the nLite application(the latest one), it has little explanation for each item. I don't remember which one, but one of them definitely said if you remove it you will lose activation.
Look through them carefully, it's there.

Here it is! Hibernate once resume many without that stupid error!

Create the file resmany.dat. This file should be empty. For example:

The resmany.dat file is used to notify NTLDR to boot from the hibernation file. Typically, NTLDR changes the signature of the hibernation file when it is first booted. On a standard Windows XP Professional system, it is expected that the state of the system will change and the hibernation file will be overwritten with new data on shutdown. However in a hibernate once, resume many environment, a single hibernation file is used to boot the system repeatedly. Because NTLDR changes the signature of the hibernation file during boot, NTLDR interprets this signature change as a failed attempt to boot from the file. However, if the resmany.dat file exists, NTLDR boots from the hibernation file normally.
I found this here . Thanks for the links SFiorito.

SFiorito. Did you get an Extended temperature CF card? The specs for the regular ones show and operating temperature minimum of 0C still. The extended ones for to -40C, which is perfect, but they're double the price.
