Simply using minlogon decreased my boot time from 45 sec to 30 sec. This is from cold boot to the time the hour glass dissapears and the hard drive stops churning.

An easy way to get around the Windows File Protection is to boot into safe mode. The only drawback is that it doesnt allow you to delete files.

I found a copy of minlogon.exe using this site: http://www.GreenMonkies.com/

I used minlogon before my pc crashed and i had to reinstall, but it worked great. After the reinstall i put off installing minlogon. I had a problem with accessing vista network shares before the crash but after the re-install it worked. I installed minlogon today and now i cant access my vista share. I think i have narrowed it down to minlogon. Anyone else having this problem?

Ok so i think i have found a way to get this working. Open a command prompt and use the "net" command. Mine looked like this: "C:\> net use \\pc1\Shared" i then get promped for a user and pass. On my share on pc1 i have guest access so i used Guest with no pass. Go to my network places and view workgroup computers. Your network computer should be there and you should be able to browse the shares.

I noticed that most of the links to the minlogon files are invalid now. I downloaded it from here: http://hosted.filefront.com/jisaac

minlogon is a feature of Win XP Embedded only. There isn't a supplied or supported Win7 version, but I have seen on other boards, and MSDN, where users use minlogon with Win7 all of the time. May want to check their for more detailed info.

Also, If anyone is looking for minlogon.exe, it can still be downloaded in the "Windows XP Embedded Service Pack 2 Feature Pack 2007 Evaluation" from MS http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl....aspx?id=16958. Download the file, mount the iso, or open with winrar, open "XPEFP2007.exe" with winRar, winzip, etc and copy the file from the "rep" folder.

I can post the file here if allowed.

sounds interesting, I would like to check it out, minlogon from XP embedded really works on 7 ? actually I have tried that, the system was stuck with a black screen at boot with some hard disk activity forever
