Im looking to have my DCHP not search for an IP until I need it to. I find it bogs my system when its on...

You can also go to windows explorer > tools > folder option > view tab > uncheck auto check for network drives and folders.
disabling the nic might get you into some problems when you want to re-enable it might not p/u the network when you want it too, but setting a static ip address on the nic will just load it up and sit there and twiddle till you need it (it wont stop if from setting it up but it wont go around trying to get a ip from a dhcp and making your life miserably sloweeer..........)

There must be a tool out there to disable the network adapter on the Fly.
Think of a software like Norton Security or Black Ice that you can lock down the PC.

jsut right click on the little computers on the taskbar and click disable. Will remain disabled until you renable it (even through reboots)
