Why go through 11 steps, when you can do two? Add two switches to the boot.ini file, reboot. Done. Does the other method have more funcionality or something? For a quick guide to update the Bootscreens using NTOSKERNEL.EXE use:
The boot.ini file in the root dir applies to NT, 2K, XP, and 2k3 Server also. It's hidden and read-only by default. Either remove the hidden attribute or make sure your explorer is configured to show hidden files. Remove the read-only attribute and edit with your favorite text editor.Originally Posted by 0l33l

To see the boot.ini file in XP you need to un-tick 'Hide protected operating system files' in the folder - view options.
