Thread: Super small XP install

I just had a quick run through nlite, and finished size is 159mb, + all drivers.

will this increase when I install it on the computer?

Oh ya. for sure it'll get bigger. The install CD size isn't the same as the final install size. That will probably turn into something between 300 and 400 megs.

Hey guys, messing about with Windows XP and getting it as small as possible, have just managed to get my install down to 243MB installed but that ius without any frontend, GPS Software etc .... am working on trimming to about 200MB/225MB as I'm sure its possible with a bit of work.

are you tweaking a lot after the installation? I can't seem to get anything down under 350megs using just nlite.

Yeah, a lot of it is after install, removing all the files I know are safe - down to 215MB so far and looking to improve further - haven't installed a frontend yet so unable to test whether I have messed anything up yet!!!!

Will be EWFing it next then undoing it and installing a frontend, once I have it as small as possible will post an update an a small 'after install' guide as to what is safe to remove and what isn't ... some of the files I have deleted praise goes to MPattonm, some I know are safe to remove.

For those with USB sticks/Memory Cards I'll put together a set of scripts to automatically remove files/folders which aren't required.

An installation of about 200Meg is possible excluding Hibernation file, Frontend and GPS.

Will keep you informed as to progress.

Looks like this guide does nothing different than nlite. Am I missing something?
