what os did you use?you used xp embeddedi used xpe not tinyxp or anything like that. xp you can control what component you need to include and what not! so try xpe, it much better. i have my ran on cf. if you just need to run the OS and and RR, it can be done under 200mb, but you keep adding stuff like me, you will end up with about 700mb. if any one know how to install .msi without having .net2.0 on xp embedded, please show me ! if you used xpe and still having a problem let me know what i can help!
did you disable any services? try enabling all services and installing. check that the windows audio service is started.
I'm having a lot of troubles installing the belkin bluetooth drivers. it gets to the end and keeps complaining about some error code. when I look it up, it's to do with access to directories. I use minlogon, and I think that's the cause of most problems since windows cannot logon as a different user, and all sorts of issues like that. As you can tell by the way I'm talking, I'm not 100% sure what's going on, these are all the fragments in my head that haven't yet fallen into place!
if anyone can show me the beacon of light, please do! if not, then search around in those areas, I think the solution is there.
Try using rev 5 of tinyxp. I know its disable the pcmcia driver though so backup that driver if u do use tinyxp
Problem solved. I just shutdown and came back on hibernation data.
I've a problem too.
Here's what I've done:
Primary Master: HDD - winXP
Secondary Master: CF-Card [NTFS]
Install winXP on a HDD [Primary Master], then install EWF [works properly for the partitions C: (HDD) and D: (CF)], then I used XPLite and created my own WinXP
I don't have a chance to install another drive to this computer, so i take the HDD and the CF and put it in another System. Now I copied all files from the HDD to the CF. I reput the CF to the Computer where it has to work. It boots up to the blue Screen where first stand "Microsoft Windows XP" - this is after Windows XP is loading and before the "Welcome" Screen appears. [CF is still at Secondary Master]
So I put the HDD to the Computer again and add the line multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn in boot.ini. If I start the Computer then and choose the second Windows XP Prof. it works fine, just a lil bit slower than from HDD.
I have no CF-to-IDE Adapter there's already one on the board.
How can I get it working fine without having the HDD connected to the system?
Sorry for my english
Edit: Some Updates - I didn't install minlogon at the first time. I tried it now at the HDD (everything works) and on the CF. If I boot now from the CF (with connected HDD or without, it's the same problem) I get a blue screen where is said, that winlogon was closed abortive and the System will shut down.
Can you change the boot order in your BIOS? Try disabling the primary IDE channel so that the CF becomes the primary.
I tried it. It's already the same problem
Another Update: Is it normal, that if I change the registry of partition C: (HDD) that the registry of partition D: (CF) gets also changed?
Edit: I also tried to create an image of my WinXP end restore it at the CF-Card. There's also the same problem. When Windows freezed and I press ESC or Return there comes a sound like pressing a key at bootup.
My CF-Card:Kingston Std 2GB
It's workin now. I copied it with [booting with] Drive Image 2002 and didn't boot into Windows.
Awesome thread so far. Very informative. I am going to attempt a solid state OS install. I was wondering if this could be done on a 1gb USB 2.0 stick? If not ill just do the CF card. My problem is that I downloaded the XPE sp2 and I cannot get it to do anything. I can't find the repository that you are talking about. I don't know if they updated it or what. After I downloaded everything all I have is 3 cd's under c:/program files/XP embedded. Is it possible for someone to email me the files necessary for ewf? I already have done the minlogon mod.
