well, like you say bootvis is your best bet right now so you can better understand what's causing the slowdown. if it takes that long to come out of hibernation then it could very well be something with your HDD since it has to read about 512MB from your drive. if you have minlogon installed, run bootvis with winlogon instead since there are some incompatibilities with minlogon. as far as CF, it's pretty fast if you get the higher end cards and slim down your install enough so that it fits. but running the system in read-only mode can cause some people headaches.

Yeah... I'm pretty sure it's HDD related. I have to check to see what config I have set in windows for DMA and such.
Well.... I wish I had done some recent benchmarking before doing this, but.... I decided to go out to my car and play with bootvis. Holy Crap! I just let it optimize my system and what a huge performance difference! I am still in the same boat as before with return from hibernation (expected), but raw boot times have increased noticably! I have better than expected results. Now I have to get a stop watch on the situation. I will have to ghost the drive for backup and then really start playing, but I feel that right now, I can boot as fast as return from hibernate... of course, I'm just guessing with out actually timing this. I'll be posting my results.
In short... if you haven't tried bootvis... you need to!
flash storage needs to be used in read-only mode otherwise the constant writing to the disk will end up killing it fairly quickly. flash only has a limited number of write cycles.

Does anybody know how to disable the scandisk at startup? In the original article it mentioned something about deleting a .dat file. I searched the system and there was no such file, but it still does error checking everytime I boot

I have downloaded XP Embedded SP2, but get a prompt to enter the key. However, I didn't get one with the download. How do I get and eval key?
@masch - do a search in the registry for autocheck - delete the value within the autocheck key.
