What about making the program check a web address for an updated datafile. That way, as people find more things to remove, they can be added with ease. I could provide hosting for such a file if needed, and even create some php to talk to the app and send it the correct address for the updated file.
Also, if you need hosting for the final program I can do that too.

Progress: On hold while I pay off my new PowerBook :D
    Part List:

knubile and odyssey: you guys get any farther with using the XPe database info for component removal? You guys got me interested so I brushed off my old work, but after installing XP SP2 tweaked by the latest nLite I haven't really found anything major to get rid of except stuff like DirectPlay, maybe DirectMusic, DirectInput, etc., but it didn't make a major difference. I was thinking of making a tool to take an inventory of the files in my system32 directory and pulling component info (dependencies and resources) from the XPe database for each one to see what else I could remove from there.

    Hi people.

OdysseyPC, i hope that your tool will succeed.

And for all of you wanting more removals...well i would like them too and have them prepared but it's kinda delayed because of a need for a stable version.

However do continue with your trimming, good job.

knubile: you guys get any farther with your app? I decided to go ahead and move along the direction I was talking about and have an applet that reads in an XP install CD (either original or nLite) and modify the components that are installed. I've only tested a few components so far and it works fairly well, but obviously it's a trial and error process to make sure you don't remove anything critical. There's mostly just junk files left over (like the PNF files in the inf directory, and all the empty directories left over by nLite) but that can be fixed by a batch file I suppose.
