I like this one I created with the help of snagging some of your wording . But the logo is sharp to bad I can't get this color depth because of the 16 color limit. So I guess everyone is just posting what theirs would look like in 256 or higher color?

Yes unfortunately many people are posting on here what they would like their boot screens to look like without regards to the difficult color palette requirements of boot screens. I suspect there are also a couple here that, although 16 color, do not adhere to these requirements either.

Anyway here is my logo in BMP format that does fufill the proper palette requirements, however you have to move the progress bar down, so you'll need a boot logo manager that can let you do that. The image you see is NOT the appropriate BMP, but a GIF of what it looks like! Please use the BMP if you try to make a boot screen from this. It's in the ZIP file.

The logo is a BMW logo above an M3 logo with "System Starting" below the progress bar. It's sized to look good on a lilliput/xenarc monitor -- ie the logo appears circular on a widescreen monitor.

Nice boot screen! What program do you use to get the progress bar to work?

Here is my dodgy little slipknot boot screen i am using.
Currently on virtual pc testing things while i am waiting for my remaining parts.
decided against the progress bar as i hate watching it move across the screen.
Kind of like the little drums in windows 98 setup used to bug the crap out of me

To apply your new bootscreen just boot into safe-mode (F8 at startup) and replace it.
    http://www.thetechguide.com/howto/xpbootlogo/

Or if you're making a nLite'd windows version, just compress the kernel and replace the one on the cd.
Couldn't find a guide for this method, but what you do is locate the "makecab.exe" file
on your computer (normally in Windows\System32 folder) and copy it to the folder of your new ntoskrnl
file (saves you from writing the different paths).

Then open the command prompt, go into that folder, type "Makecab ntoskrnl.exe ntoskrnl.ex_" followed by enter.
Replace the original ntoskrnl.ex_ file in the i386 folder of your new XP system (the one to be nlited).

You might want to test your new kernel/windows image with WMWare or similar virtual computers
before you start burning CD's and installing Windows just in case something went wrong.
