Not that i've found a solution, but i have the same problem. switching to minlogon.exe seems to have disabled my atx power button...

so anyone have any luck figuring out what's causing it to not work for some people? would love to be able to use the minlogin since it booted up much faster but the ACPI not working for shutdown makes it not worth it.

Nope. I haven't figure anything out. I've tried so many installations including a full xp install(only used nlite to make it unattended), and it still didn't work.
I gave up. I'm back to winlogon for the time being.
I'm so mad that other have this working and mine just won't.
I'm using an XP SP2 corporate CD. Could that be it?

I don't think the copperate edition would make a difference, i'm using an XP pro SP0 retail disk with SP1 installed and it doesn't work for me either, not using nlite or anything else on it.

what motherboard are you using bigman, and if a VIA what bios rev, also what bios rev are you using knubile? wondering if it could be some sort of bios or motherboard issue, i'm using an MII10000 board, will need to check my bios rev when I get home.

I was using a M9K with 1.13. Now i'm using an M10KN with 1.16. Same problem on both.

I'm using an 815EM based board, can't shutdown either.
I've tried granting the SYSTEM user shutdown privilages, making the SYSTEM user an administrator and that doesn't help either... Clean installed XP twice, flash upgraded bios, no change, but my motherboard might have a dodgy acpi implementation.
