    workaround for problem

It looks like you might need to install the power saving modules from XPe into XP to get it working....

Anyhow, i couldn't be bothered looking too deeply into this problem (i'm sure MS will fix it someday when one of their MSDN premium subscribers bugs them about it), so i wrote a workaround which might be sufficient for most people here (it is for me!).

Attached is a small app that'll run silently and leave an icon in your system tray. It looks out for WM_POWERBROADCAST messages and calls SetProcessShutdownParameters() to become the highest priority app to receive shutdown messages. If PBT_APMQUERYSUSPEND or PBT_APMQUERYSTANDBY are received (system is entering sleep / standby mode and the OS queries applications to see if it's okay to enter this state), the app sends back BROADCAST_QUERY_DENY to abort entering sleep / standby mode. A timer is then started, which calls ExitWindowsEx(EWX_POWEROFF, EWX_FORCEIFHUNG) to shutdown the PC.

So if you set your PC to 'standby' when your power button is pushed, this app will cancel the standby command, and shut down your PC instead.

See this post for an updated download.

One of the things I read about in the newsgroups said that they lost ACPI button functionality if they changed the power properties after installing minlogon. Can you guys try installing XP, make your settings changes (power button = shutdown), reboot and make sure it works properly, and then change to minlogon and see if it works then?

mine has the default to power button = shutdown when I install windows, so I didn't change it after switching to minlogin.

gona have to try that app out when I get home starfox, if that works that's good enough for me, don't need sleep/standby, just want my PSU to be able to shut the system down.

Beleive me SFiorito. I've gone through 6 different installations including trying it on my daily laptop and it simple won't work.
Thanks for the app Starfox. I'll be using it until we get this figure out. At least I can get out of my car now without having to press a few buttons on the screen.
    you da man!

the other thing is, if you guys are using ewf there's no need to cleanly shutdown the system so you can just have the powersupply shutdown and set the BIOS to startup when it receives power again.

Tried that this afternoon. Clean installed unmodified XP, set the power button to shutdown. Tested that it worked, then installed minlogon as per your instructions. Rebooted, after that shutdown doesn't work...

Not sure what's causing this problem (maybe a crappy ACPI implementation in the BIOS on the PC i'm putting in my car....).

Anyhow, it seems like the workaround i posted is useful for some people other than me, so i'll create a seperate thread about it.. maybe Frodo or the other admins will put it on the utilities area of the forums..

I'm at the tail end of my CF install and I'm having this problem now. My M10K won't won't take the shutdown command from the Opus because I'm using minlogon. As a result, my Opus stays powered for 3 minutes before doing a hard shut down.

How do I set an Opus 150 to shutdown the system as soon as the remote wire has no power? I'm using a CF card so I'm not worried about a clean shut down.
