Customizing the "Resuming Windows" screen
I think what they are saying is that because it is a text screen, built into ntloader (maybe, who knows where it comes from) the solution isn't as easy as changing out a bitmap file. Changing it would require patching whatever program is generating the message. Certainly not impossible, but it will certainly take some knowledge and experience. (some source code would be nice too!)

Customizing the "Resuming Windows" screen
Is there any way to display an image when windows is returning from hibernation instead of showing the text and the progress bar. I want to make it look the same as my boot screen.

highly doubt it without some major codehacking. the resume screen doesnt use any images whereas the regular boot screen and hibernation screen use images.

Hey camsgs3, the images have to be 16 bit color for those as well right?
so those are only for when you hibernate?
But when you wake up it's impossible to load a picture?

Yeah, if you look in the link to the post that camsgs3 posted you will see how to change the text from "Resuming Windows" to anything you want...I made mine "Returning to car"
Making it display an image instead would be very difficuilt

just an idea here..
what if there was a way to have a programe do 2 things while the computer resumes..
step 1) load image into graphics card memory or whatever..
step 2) block the NTDLR thingy from overwriting that..
I doubt we'll be able to do this nativly.. but maybe this could be a bandaid solution.. any coders willing to comment?..
This is not as easy as it seems.
This way I think it could work is as follows for displaying some image similar to the boot screen:
First you'd have to disassamble the either ntoskrnl.exe and ntldr.exe.
Then you'd have to find the code or the procedure call in the ntoskrnl.asm that is responsible for showing the boot screen. If you're lucky and this is a call to a public procedure you can replace the code in ntdlr.asm that shows the "returning" with the procedure call.
If this procedure is static, you have to copy the whole procedure and the resources it needs to ntldr.asm.
Next you'de have to build a new exe file from the assambler code.
But remember you need doing this all with assambler code, not in a higher programming language which makes the task even more difficult.
And in the end, there will be other dependecies, build options, resources and other problem that I haven't thought of yet.
Actually, you need a program hacker or cracker or someone who is willing to learn this![]()

FYI, I followed the steps here to replace the windows logo (the one that appears upon initiating a hibernation sequence) and it DOES NOT WORK.
When the time comes to display the screen, it uses the old one again. I re-check the file with reshacker and it is showing my custom one. What gives!
Dont ask me why! I am familiar with the process, because I have modified the boot screens this way too on the NTOSKRNL.EXE file.

Maybe an old thread but I know many of You have the same question and I havent seen an answer for this. Since I also edited the "going into hibernate" screen and didnīt get any result even though my changes was showing in the ntoskrnl.exe I just by accident saw it change when I did a overall cleanup in windows with tune up utilities for windows 2006. I did some disk cleanup, registry bad links cleanup, registry defrag etc.... Maybe this could make the file to load better because something I did with the registry changed... I donīt know.. maybe worth a try. Anyway now it works flawlessly all the time![]()
