start up options

I want to choose Road Runner as my start up shell, but I want the option to use windows as well. Is there a way I can choose when I boot? like having multiple versions of windows? also If I do change Road Runner to my shell, will it load everything correctly, ex. navivoice, codecs, phonecontrol, etc.

good q. i want to know too. Like if you exit RR does it just bring you back to windows if you loaded it as your shell?

if the frontend supports starting an external application then you can do that, otherwise you can only use explorer or your frontend as the shell. you could also write a small applet that runs as your shell which in turn starts up either explorer or your frontend. that way when you exit your shell the applet is there for you to start explorer. or you could just hit ctrl-alt-del and run explorer from task manager. keep in mind that if you're using minlogon that you'll need the ctrl-alt-del service posted as a sticky in this forum.

anyone want to make an applet like that? I heard about a laptop that had an audio/video player that you could use without runing windows OS and it gave me the idea.

well, that's completely different. that's the bios (or an addon to it) that does that. i think it's in one of those new palmtop PC's. you can even check email on it without booting into Windows.

ah ok I just made an app called WINDOWS for rr and in the ini i put:

[GENERAL]
PATH = C:\windows\explorer.exe
TryEmbeddedTimeOut = 5
WindowSearchString=!ExploreWClass

Seems to work cool.

OK one question, when I am in regedit and I go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

and then edit Shell, what do I put in there? It says "explorer.exe," but do I have to put the whole path like: C:\Program Files\Road Runner\rr.exe

Would that work?

The whole path, yeah.
Ie. "C:\Program Files\Road Runner\rr.exe"

Sweet thanks! hey you don't know how to change/move the progress bar on the startup screen do you? I made a cool one, but not sure how to move it where I want and get it to load in windows.....
