    windows 2000 optimization -help

hi this is my first post in this section, i am running windows 2000 pro on my carputer, it loads in about 1 minute give and take, and im ok with it, running road runner as my front end. but now its getting slower because i added phone control with bluetooth and possible navi voice and girder, girder is scheduled to be installed next week. now my dillemma is so obvious that my loading time is longer now and when i run the apps, the whole pc reacts slower. lagging. and so with that said, can anyone telll me how to optimize my system? i know there a bunch of stuffs windows loads when it starts, can we get rid of unneeded windows apps running in the background? i also see these things mentioned here like nlite and stuff, what are they? thanks for the help in advance.

well, looking at your 800mhz CPU I don't know how much improvement you can get. for bootup speed you want to disable as many start up processes and services as possible. but if your system is struggling just to run your apps there's not much to do. how much RAM do you have? could be you need more.

thanks, i am running 256 mb pc 133 ram, tried to put a 512 mb, not the low profile ones but i guess the ram was bad and did not work at all. is there a problem if i put the normal sized rams rather than the loiw profile ones? so what start up processes can i disable on start up and how do i do this? thanks

You may very well have a motherboard that won't take DIMMs larger than 256MB. My laptop woin't take a 512MB module. I have another older Athlon slot-A motherboard that's the same way.

The only problem with full-size modules is the ability to fit them in some smaller cases. Full-sized modules work just fine.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Search on terms: "nLite Windows 2000" or "Win 2k nLite" to find out about reducing boot times. I did and there are several posts relating to your question.

the specs of my board said it can take 2 512mb for a total of 1gb, yeh normal sized rams dont fit on my case unless i take out my cd rom drive. i checked the web for nlite and i think it can help my boot time. thanks for the info. any of you guys have a boot screen for the honda logo? or how do i make one of my own? and does it have any effect on the boot time? thanks again

I cant imagine how changing your Award logo to Honda one could increase your boot times. Unless you are driving some really slow Honda car. In this case you should consider upgrading your engine, 200 HP should be OK for that purpose.

Nah, put some decals on the car, that works! Each decal is good for at least 10HP at the wheels!

lol, i think i wasnt clear with my boot time question, what i meant was if i change my boot screen to something else, is there any negative effect on my boot time (slower) or something or make it unstable? thanks

i like the idea of putting decals hahahha!!! done with modding engines, cost $$$$ plus not street legal, so now im back to stock.
