Wow, that's a nice guide! This is becoming an obsession for me. Thanks, that will help.
Great! ..Now we talkin'![]()
Go to this guy for starters:http://www.hollow-refuge.net/Bold/viewtopic.php?t=229
His guide is very good for starters, he also has a couple of suggestions for batchfiles that will suit your needs.
A tip is to enable tooltip and scan over all those dll's in your System32 directory, everything that sounds not needed try to delete it(not move)...if it will be deleted you can do a google on it and se what kinda errors ppl had with it..usually that will give u enuff info..pop that file back and continue..do a reboot every 5 files or so.
Later on when you think you have nailed your install we can have a look at what kinda regfiles u might need..
..sorry bout that attachment, must have been stopped somewhere![]()

That guide talks about removing everything in the XP installation. Whats left after you do that? an unusable system. To remove all that stuff and determine if your system is still usable will take you the rest of your life +
Waste...
Not really. Remove one thing at a time and test. What's left after you do that is the slimmest install that's 100% usable. It takes a lot of time, but measured in days. And it's worth it for me because 1: it's fun and 2: it will result in a system that performs better. If you're happy with only Nlite optimizations, then don't bother. But there's so much more you can do.

I can think of much better uses for my time then to sit in front of an XP installation and remove stuff to save a 200 meg and spend 2 months to do it. The reward is no where near worth the time invested. If you have no life - well then thats another story. Better to take up programming as it will be much more applicable in the future.
E30vert, who are you to judge??? "If you have no life"??? Well, many people think that CarPCs are a useless hobby, and would share your vision that "If you have no life" and apply that to carpcs...
IMO you are awfully new around here (judging from your Join Date) to be firing off such arguments just cause YOU dont think it is worth it. (Of course you will tellme you have been a reader for several years).....
We have an awesome but albeit uncommon hobby, and if we start judging EACH OTHER as doing useless stuff, then imagine what the others say about us!
Fonseca, I admire your patience, and I wish I had a bit of patience to speed up my install by nliting/removing crap... I gave up on nlite and went from about 25secs boot, to 45 secs boot... oh well, I usually hibernate anyways![]()
First you message me and ask for settings and then you are flaming ppl that actually tries to optimize their OS....so, you only want the fruit of that "waste of time"..??Originally Posted by E30vert

Do you realize that you are in a CarPC forum?
Can you just for a second try to imagine what would be needed in a car when it comes to an OS?
Ok, I help you: we need...fast boot (no unecessary stuff firing up)
...low memory usage (less heat, easier to hide)
...small install (256mbCF or 1GBCF?)
Now run to daddy and ask what he thinks, I'm sure he can give a more indepth explanation about the world today...everything aint good my friend...sometimes we will just have to roll up our sleeves and get it done ourselfs..
EDIT: oh, I also use my "useless" OS for FarCry, Halflife2, Elitewarrior, COD.(you might just be able to relate to that...who knows?)..and numerous ather apps like AV and FW and so on...
Hey Guys, I first off want to thank those that have contributed to this thread, I think that its turning out better than I had planned !
I think that what we should do here, is post another settings.ini (a revised one) because I think mine is a bit outdated and maybe if some of you could post some files that you're able to delete successfully.
I think what we're doing here in groundbreaking, I knew that the hours I spent on my initial nLite config could be well documented and used for the good of others in this community. You guys are so motivated and brilliant, I tossed a little bit of info out there and have gotten so much back.
Please keep the informative posts comming !

Yeah sounds like you use your Awesome CARPC OS to do some very constructive things in car like play FarCry, Halflife2, Elitewarrior, COD. I can envision you right now sitting there playing action games behind your steering wheel while people drive by and think- "Man, theres a case of arrested development if I ever saw one"
If you read a few topics up you will see that the CARPC Forum that you speak of is asking for the collective settings of the people that have been sucessful at slimming down thier OS and still allowed it to be functional- THATS the VERY SAME THING I ASKED YOU FOR -Jackass!
So when the CARPC forum that YOU are in asks for what I have asked for does that tend to tell you something???
Sounds like we all are looking for the "fruits of everyones labor" - (that goes without saying- its a given-****NUT) so that we all dont have to sit behind our computers like the techno geek you are and whittle down our OS's using "trial and error". You can just keep your settings as the FORUM will obviously post another nlite.ini file that has even better and more optimized settings very soon anyway,![]()
