well, I'm getting closer to a final version..

Anyhow, meantime I can post my Nlite settings..but they are for .998i b5

    This is what I keep:

    Drivers: Firewire, MultiCPU, Ports
Internet Utilities: IE Core, IIS, Network Monitor and Tools
Operating System : Floppy, Task Scheduler, Command Lines, (16bit optional)
Services: DHCP, Event Log, Logical Disk M, WMI, MSMQ, Shell Services, WIFI

    thats it!

if you use .998i b5 it will run perfectly!

I'm a bit skeptical that this configuration will be able to handle an application that makes a referance to a COM+ or ActiveX component. For example, frodoplayer (a front end) simply because it referancesa COM+ control to connect to a database.

In my config adventures Distributed Link Transaction Coordinator and COM + were needed.

I may be way off basis here because I havent used the newer version of nLite so these things might be built in.

Clint can you install a front end with a database with your install ??

oh yea, one more ? you have framework 1.1 in that configuration ??
Progress [I will seriously never be done!]
    Via EPIA MII
    512MB RAM
    OEM GPS (embedded)
    nLite WinXP pro on
    1GB Extreme III CF card
    Carnetix 1260 startup/ DC-DC regulator
Software: Still, re-Writing my existing front end in .Net

No problem, ActiveX is fully functional and COM+ can be...Distributed Link Transaction Coordinator is a sucky service but can easily be added.

Point is, I'm soon at the basic config that will handle all those media, apps, even games and secure access to the outer world..(network).
What I'm aiming at is the smallest possible lightweight system that then can be built upwards...makes more sense to me at least.

..the stuff I add is then my choice, not M$.

It's part of the FlighDeck suite from via.
Mission Control shows you CPU temp/fan speed etc. Just like motherboard monitor I guess, but I could never get that one to work with my mini-itx.

I have been using nLite and the other day I was able to get speech running. If you follow the posts in the nLite Safe Settings post #28, but choose not to remove Media\Speech, and System\CTF it will work just fine for you.

Benn away for a while, just upgraded the motherboard in my car pc and used nlite again, the same settings I used in post 28. Thanks mick0uziel I have "show desktop" now.

I didn't think it would get much better than what I had in thread 28, whenever I tried it didn't work. I can see there's been a lot of progress since I last posted. It would be interesting to see how many man hours were spent working with nlite since intellaworks started this. This thread is the good stuff

    OH MY GOD

Please tell me you didn't read all that

I just now received my MII12k and I plan to install to my Extreme III 1G CF Card. I'm thinking that nLite could do the big part of it then maybe slima bit more using this guys guide but at this point does it really make it faster or just smaller?

Plan is to get better than a 30sec boot with XP on the MII. Reading through this forum I think it's doable and may be close just using some of the nLIte ini file seen on here. Some folks are seeing very fast boot times, if you were to just use the ini file that is in #28 and did nothing else what could you boot time be? I have a 512Mb stick and booting off the Extreme III card.

The software install for my PC is just one small piece to a larger project I've been working on. I'm am far from being a lazy person but for this I'm hoping for quick fix to tie me over until my project is complete and then I will tweak more. How's that for honesty

BTW anyone have a live link to 998? LInks in google are dead or just point to the current nLite version.

Thx for all the help and the informative threads.

    Chuck

***EDIT: I did find nlite 998. Actually in another thread titled does anyone have nlite v.998
