i know im probably missing something, but i used the safe settings from that post, just copied and paste it into a file and renamed its extensions to ini
Then using winlite i just loaded the ini file, created the iso (its 100mb) and burnt it.
Now i cant install this new windows cd because theres no install file?

This is a perfect example of how frustrating nLite can be. To those of you whom are reading this please be prepared when working with nLite to deal with many "strange issues." Further more the settings posted here are just a safe guide there are things you can take out or leave in but after about 100 hours working with nLite'd system this seems to be the most stable build.Originally Posted by E30vert

Well, I finally called it quits after 11 ISOs. I'm now successfully running a 190meg ISO of SP2 with the comprehensive hotfix package, although I'm sure a good bit of the latter was removed anyway. It has been working 100% for the last few days and I've tried everything I can think of to find any problems.
Nlite can indeed be frustrating. I was close to violence a few times.
I will just run off my hdd for now since I can no longer fit my 512mb cf card. I'm using Minlogon (I bet that could have been integrated into the ISO too), I guess I won't be messing with EWF for now either.
Anyway, thanks for sharing your settings, they were very helpful. Although they ultimately led to hours of annoyance.

fonseca- Yes 190 meg ISO, but what capacity (size) after install and deletion of the pagefile.sys (if you go that route) - not suggested with less than 512 Meg of RAM.
As for the hotfixes you actually just replace the files (with a few exceptions) so whatever files your taking out would be gone anyhowOriginally Posted by fonseca
Don't give up, surely you can fit your OS on a 512mb card...more than enuff space...
What you don't want is a pagefile, better keep all in that RAM instead...if you have Nlited (or even better, done some "cleaning" manually as well) you can loose that pagefile even if your on a 256mb stick only.
I've managed to get my footprint down to a mere 183mb so it will actually fit on a 256mb CF....just for the fun of it![]()
I have nlited my system as mentioned in post 28. Installed on CF (2GB) as 488MB, thats with pagefile diasabled? However, the network is not working, I can see the 100mb nic and my Dlink wireless in h/w manager, but there are no network connections, what am I doing wrong?
Do not remove Internet Information Services (IIS), it's not removed properly (given ur using 0.998b, wich still are the best version).
Also if u need DHCP (dynamic IP and some other funtions) do not remove
NetShell Cmd-Tool
Network Monitor Driver and Tools
Yeah, I meant that Nlite probably removed a lot of what the hotfixes fixed in the next step, right after applying them.Originally Posted by Clint
I could just squeeze the OS only onto a 512MB card now after a few days of tinkering, however I'm pretty concerned about the lack of a pagefile with 256MB ram. Roadrunner seems to take my setup to the limits sometimes as it is, and my pagefile is already at 345MB, bumped up by Windows a good bit over the last few days. I'm not using RR as my shell yet(I want that on the CF too), and there's still plenty of things I can work on in the OS to improve performance. I'll have to do some testing without a pagefile and see how it goes. But my current cold boot time is 19 seconds with internet disabled, 14 seconds from hibernation. I've lowered that boot time from 27 seconds a few days ago, so I'm starting to think Hibernation isn't even necessary.
I still don't know what I was doing wrong regarding Hibernation, I manually set everything in 99.9 according to the posts here and still couldn't get it to work. There must be some other difference between the Nlite builds that I didn't catch. I'm going to give Nlite one more shot with 99.8, but I shudder to think how many hours I've spent using it and Virtual PC already. Your 183MB footprint is crazy. What can you do with that?
BTW, integrating drivers is not worth the trouble, I've had better results installing them manually after setup, especially some of the Via drivers, even though I know I selected all the correct files. Ghosting a fresh install is the way to go. That USB driver is evil.

Oyes, there is a very big difference between the versions in my opinion...and the 0.999 is the worst of them![]()
You will get much better result with 0.998, I havent tried the 1.0* yet...but I'll stick to the thing I know best..
As for my 183mb footprint, the only thing I cannot do is install MS Office..coz the lack of some ODBC files...cant see much use for it eihter in a car
Apart from that I can do anything you might wanna do...just had a go at a game of FarCry without any probs...using it for this here typing right now as well...

..oh, and I dont have performance monitor or shared folders..thats it!
Mind you, I have buried many hours on testing and testing..and Nlite is only a tool..lotsa registry and batch files has been done as well.
