    Why is that a problem ? A proirity level was designed for applications in a multitasking envirnment. Since the front end I assume contains the ability to do everything you need, its going to be the only application running on the system, thus having the highest priority.

    I realize that your probably thinking that background processes probably have higher priority than your front end which depending on thier states they probably do. But I think they should be left alone.

    I don't know what kind of configuration you have, but this article was originally written for those who have nLited thier systems, applied minlogon and EWF.

    When chopping down the OS with minlogon, we've really cut down the stress the XP OS puts on the hardware really increasing the performance of any machine. Thus making the performance benefit of changing an applications proirity very minimal.

    Also, the kernal treats the OS's shell a little differently than a normal application. The proirity is not "normal", however its up to the programmer to utilize the special features the Kernel gives to the shell.

    well my question came because I was actually using my carpc for some actual PC based work the other day... while listening to music.. but winzip kept my processor so busy the music was skipping... so i thought that hey!.. what if frodoplayer's priority was always realtime...

    so i was curious if this was possible...

    doesn't matter whether you do it in regedit or gpedit and EWF doesn't come into play

    Sorry to bring this thread from the dead but i have a question pertaining to adding command line parameters into the shell. I currently have my shell set to RR.exe, but i wanna get rid of the splash screen using the /Q command. I've added it to the shell in the following ways but RR never loads when i do:

    Shell="C:\Program Files\Road Runner\RR.exe /Q"
    Shell="C:\Program Files\Road Runner\RR.exe \Q"
    Shell="C:\Program Files\Road Runner\RR.exe -Q"

    Whats the correct way to add a command line parameter in the shell section of the regisitry?

    Before I have a go at doing this could I just confirm a couple of things as this is more in depth than I'd normally play with in a PC. When changed do you completely lose your deskpot and task bars or is there a way of getting your front end to boot first but keep the standard GUI in the background so that it is diplayed upon exiting the program??

    I like the idea of having the front end boot up straight away but still want to be able to use windows as normal to make any system changes and adjustments. I have put a link to my front ends .exe file in startup but dont see the point in having it load the desktop for the sake of it just to load the front end straight away.

    Any ideas guys??
    Cheers,
    Stu

    You really don't need to worry all that much about screwing up when you change your shell. Regardless of what you have running as your shell, you can always hit Ctrl-Shift-Esc to bring up the task manager. From there you can run (under the file menu) the shell of your choice, or regedit to fix the problem or whatever.
    I have tested this.. I set my shell to solitare to be sure.
