I don't remember what the keys are off hand. When I get home from work I can look at my registry and find out what they are and what values you should have in there.

How can I be sure I choose the correct "User" GUI to edit? Do I look for the user name???

Just for kicks I navigated to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\". There is no entry "current version" listed there. Navigated to "HKEY_USERS\Software\Microsoft\". There is no entry "current version" listed there either. Went to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\", and its not there either. WTF???

UPDATE: Forgot to enter "\Windows NT". Do I do the edit in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" or "HKEY_USERS"??? I want to get this right the first time!

    Thanks in advance!!!

Ahh so you don't have ewf but still need a way to change your shell ? here ya go:

Start->Run->GPEDIT.MSC->user config->admin templates->system-> right hand pane look for (custom user interface) and change this over to point to your front end.
Will this approach set the current desktop permanently. Seem a lot easier than messing with the registry

I have written this small app and thought it would be useful, it will force windows explorer to open as a shell (showing the taskbar and start menu) instead of just a window after the default shell has been changed through the registry settings to your frontend, This way my front end starts as the shell but when I need to do maintenance I can still access the full windows shell without hassle or closing my frontend.

    ShellStarter.zip

    Enjoy

Is it possible to load a VNC client session like this? Say, to have the VNC session embedded as if it were a desktop wallpaper? Maybe also retain the Windows taskbar, and possible windows on top of the VNC session in the desktop?
