sorry, txtsetup.sif, i wasn't there with the files when i made the post, so there ya go, thats where im recieving errors, pretty much with all of the driver removal areas

when a line errors it has a ; before the line, i remove that, no more error, ill test to see it this works out,

all i can see is sweet, its installing now in vmware, so , maybe that can be a quick fix, since all drivers, that get removed, will result in this errors, except monitor drivers so far, i belive

you're using XP right? what version? the semi-colon is there to comment out the line which keeps the setup from installing that file. what drivers are you removing? does it only give you problems when you remove drivers or when you remove any component?

just drivers, i know for sure, i dont remove pci.sys, but it put the semi-colon there anyway

    xp home oem sp2

ive been moving through different parts of the drivers area, im mainly trying to get it to load less drivers during the first stage of xp setup,

from system devices, i get pci.sys, and isapnp.sys missing or currupt, but those were left for sure,

from the looks of it, i remove all but ide.sys, for my computer, since thats all i'd need, but in the end, it still wants intelide.sys, cmdide.sys, viaide.sys, since it still looks for them, but then says files missing, since its not removed from being looked for

for removing ide devices, i notices no ; in
[BusExtenders.Load] which is where im getting errors for these devices trying to load still, puting the ; for the ones i want to remove gets rid of these errors

but i am still sure, i didn't remove the pciide.sys, but it get removed anyway, so i un-removed it, and i've made my way past, removing ide devices so far

the thing is that some components share the same files. for instance, if you go into the HID tree you'll find that some joysticks include hidusb.sys (or usbhid.sys whatever) as well as their own driver files. if you remove that component it'll remove hidusb.sys as well. so make sure to look at what files a component will be removing because you'd be surprised at how some components will remove some extremely important stuff. but it sounds like to me that you're removing something that XP Setup is expecting to be there so it complains that the line is corrupted. it seems that there are certain files XP just wants to load or copy regardless of whether your system needs them or not.

yeh, from doing a little editing, im sure of what your saying now, but that wont stop me, since i understand what the ; does now, ill be set,

from my windows 98 days, trial and error, is one of my greatest skills

but yeah, its extremely difficult, just to find out, that all my hard work, results in a bsod, lol

yeh, ill just mess with compents of windows now, drivers, are well, out of reach atm, heheheh

got through my first successful removal of compents, went from 293mb to 288mb, getting close to my hopes of 40mb removal (final install size, nothing changed in cd size, i dont think it should either, correct me if im wrong)

second test, got down to 285, your idea of making copy's is working well, but i fear my hard drive, (4gb free) will fill before im done, heheheh, onto test 3,

havn't freed any space, but went from 3200 components to 1504, getting there, test 6, heheh, i really hate, double posting, so edited this like mad

thanks for your help, i've been successful getting past simple dependacy errors i've encounter, weening out what i can remove, i've probally done 50% of what i have planed so far, i have successfully intergradted minlogin before the install of windows, too, added a lil time for the second stage of install, as it has to do stuff, when minlogin first get used, but other than that, im set , can you say speed, minlogin makes shutdown, and login faster for sure

    thanks you program is great,

im on my 8th test now, going on 9

yeah, my app just adds the registry value and copies the minlogon file over so all you need to do is rename it after the install is done. there are a few other issues with minlogon that i'm sure you'll find out as you use it.

well i noticed you managed to compress minlogin to mszip or 7z, whatever it is, can i grab the tool it uses? or a tool to re-compress a inf to in_, im trying to get into syssetup.inf to remove the line oembios.cat. Thanks, any help would be great, i've successfully removed all other errors that will occur when removing oembios.* files, thanks

    edit

btw, i've gone from 293mb hd usage to 281 mb hd usage on first boot, since after first boot, these numbers change, and the saved space might not be noticed after which, also, ive slowly made my way through most of the drivers, onto test 11 starting with only 1213 components now

oh and about minlogon, i only intergrated minlogin.exe, not ewf, didn't even have those files, deleted origional winlogon.ex_ first and then i renamed minlogon.ex_ to winlogon.ex_ , then removed the line for minlogon in txtsetup.sif
by doing it this way, since nlite would install tweaks on Owner account instead of default account that minlogon uses, this makes it so tweaks get installed to the right place,

well, i'd be careful with that since you may have problems installing stuff using minlogon, but i'm not entirely sure. it's been a while since i did much with minlogon. as far as "compressing".... I cheat... use the "expand" command to decompress the files and you can either just rename them to *.in_, *.ex_, etc. or use the "compress" command (I think). if you just rename them then "expand" will see it as having 0% compression... yeah, i'm lazy..
