In my response I pointed what to look at (might as well learn and understand stuff rather than have everything chewed and digested for you). And there is in fact a need to point out that there is a lot of useful information to be found here, if one searches that is. I prefer to have "redundant" posts in a thread then a bunch of threads that ask same question.

Agreed. We're not here to babysit newbies who simply refuse to take the time to do a quick search before starting a new thread. If you have a question to ask, search before posting it. That is just simple forum etiquette, anywhere.

USB 1.1 provides a theoretical throughput of 12mb/s
CF has a bandwidth of 16 mb/s IIRC (I'm to lazy to look this up atm)
ATA-133 provides a theoretical throughput of 133 mb/s

What numbers are larger?

There are arguments about the benifits of no seek times with CF, but I don't buy it. It is also noteworthy that CF cards wear out far sooner then a hard drive.

1. I'll apologize for all the long standing members here for being dinks to you, its quite possibly some are just having a bad day, however lately the same members seem to be having "bad days, everyday"

2. I havent read through most of the posts so forgive me if I repeat something

3. If your planning on booting a flash drive through USB 2.0 on a via system you can forget it, the via BIOS doesn't support it. However using flash media or solid state media does increase the speed of the boot process (depending on the type of flash media) , but not by much because typically you'll be going through the IDE bus which does have a bandwidth limit.

4. Read up a bit on Minlogon, EWF and nLite. I think that you might find some more clues as to what your looking for.

5. One more thing, when being run from a "removeable drive" Windows XP will not shut down properly (it will freeze) so your flash drive or solid state media device must be able to be set up as a "fixed disk". Which may not be possible on some flash media or solid state devices


6. You probably could have found these anwsers by searching but because the articles are lenghty and a bit combersome you might not have gotten the information back in such a compacted form which is why I took the time to get you started.
