    PIN entry

I've nearly completed my install and will be using XP and primarily a Xenarc Touchscreen for input, so was hoping to leave any keyboard at home. I had in mind to get XP to log in directly to my user desktop without entering a password, but had in mind to enter a PIN on screen before windows boots (or at login). I though I had found some software to do that on StevieG's website, but I am not sure.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Tell me where to search please?

i spose you could have a DOS based program that ran on boot and provided a GUI showing a numeric pad for a pin entry, then it began windows on correct entry, if you know any programming its not hard to do, i recommend pascal as its pretty easy for what you want

Thinking about it, what is your reason for wanting security before starting windows. Cant really see a point to it myself

I thought it would be simpler to enter a PIN onto an onscreen number-pad on the touchscreen, than to enter a password into windows logon, especially as I don't know if I can use an onscreen keyboard on the touchscreen before windows has logged on using the Xenarc touchscreen drivers.

you can always buy a small finger print reader and attatch it on your dash or behind your steering wheel, that will be effective for windows login and they are quite cheap, plus you can then use it for other applications, the time spent on a boot up PIN entry would kind of be futile when there are so many more options for quick secure logons. having said that im sure you dont have to have a logon on XP

Fingerprint reader - I hadn't thought of that. Will investigate.

Must stop checking how hot the brake discs are with my finger though. Ouch!

doesn't the software on stevieg's site do exactly what you want...
his also has the added benefit of being able to record thru his mike when its on that screen. he did it for when the car was in for service so he could check they weren't messing around.

i'd also thought about the fingerprint readers.... as immobilizers to..
    Cheers

That's what I thought it did previously, but when I looked at it yesterday I saw mention only of the recording function. Will look again!

(You've got to expect stoopid questions - I am new round here)
