hey smart one, I've got Gigs of MP3's and they're all legal. i've either ripped them myself or bought them online. if you don't feel MSFT's products are worth paying for then don't use them.

Well, I guess this group has decided to stay on the lawful side when it comes to purchasing software.

You should laugh at yourself being proud to be unlawful like that.

I mean I buy software when it is solid stable good and something I like, but to pay for a Microsoft product other than Office is a very amusing idea.

I have even paid a few hundred out in Linux distros, but NEVER MS, you guys are cute, this is why I like this place some have hard drive collections in the Terabyte range and yet wanna buy. To each his/her own though, at least you get a cool hologram in the CD. :P

If you are student, you can get academic version at your school's bookstore for cheap. I mean dirt cheap.

Come on guys, stacker can't be that far off. I'm sure most of you have recevied software from friends. And really what is legal in the mp3 world? Is it okay to record music from the radio? Or from a *tape? If its being broadcasted over the air whos to stop you. And should someone stop you? Are you really concerned that ripping mp3's from cd's might cause a musicians child to not have a buttler or there own personal island with an amusment park.

Anyways legend5761, I like Windows 2000 pro, and Windows XP only boots up a little faster. But if you feel lawful enough to buy **crap from ***microsoft. I wont stop you. In fact why should i. LAND OF THE FREE NO MORE.

*tape = used in the 80's to record music and play back in cassette decks
**crap = like the crap microsoft sells
***microsoft = It will be the end of civilization as we know it!

Happy to see honesty, I didn't mean it a way to promote any idea though. I was just pointing out the irony in the concept.

LOL ya me too, but I also have few things downloaded. I never said I didn't feel their products were worth my money. I love Word, Excel, and that little calculator. I was simply making my point that their Operating (or -inoperating) system sucks. I have a paid version of XP Pro, but I formatted to install Linux because it was so bad. Hey I just use my palm for the calculator now. it handles fine. What I use has no bearing on what I posted though, nor does a good or bad opinion of MS.

You mean Office or XP? I know they give an amazing discount on Office, that is really cool like 80 bucks.

I don't have illegal software, you guys are assuming too much. Read the above post a few times, then re-read my post. It seems only one person understood where those words were coming from, and it was not from LW or ED. As far as the legality of my hard drives, I am forced to buy because all my media is in Thai and not available online. I think the only thing I even have out of my 600GB that is illegal is a downloaded Rascal Flats video & Gimp.

But again my drives do not affect the point behind what I said guys, it was only said in humor, not to get some soap opera like drama going. Simply isn't it ironic?

Hey got it from school, but god damn Microsoft only allowed me to use my key like 5? times before they said it wasnt good anymore(over 1 1/2 years time). Yea man go with linux, windows only for high end games. Everything else you can get away with in linux, tho it may be a great pain in the ***, but at least you will learn alot. Although i havent used WineX yet so you might be able to do good game with WineX. Not sure

Got my copy for $10 through school, I "needed" XP pro to run Visual Studios.net ($30) so I was able to purchase it very cheap.

Shipping killed me though, $10 for each package, but still not bad... $60 for XP pro and VS.net. The only thing is I can't get 'support' for VS.net anymore. I've installed XP more than 6 times, on two computers though. When I installed in the first time on the second computer, I had to call and talk to someone at MS and tell them what was up (It's not a pirated software, I just don't run the other system anymore...) the guy said that's cool, here's your activation code or whatever.

What they do: Find out all the information from your system and send it in during activation. If it doesn't match (or close) to what was sent in last time that key was activated, you can't do it online. If only a few things are different (IE: video card and hard drive) they figure you just upgraded or something...

So... What I do now is install the HD in a legacy system, install WinXP, then move the HD to the new PC. I don't think anything is illegal, cause I bought it (granted, very cheap) and I'm the one using it.
