    Also i was looking and the price of a license for XPE is only $90 so the person that said $900, I believe you wereing looking at the price of the entire package with development tools and all, the license itself is only $90
    How are you going to develop a custom build with no development tools?

    EDIT: I suppose you could download the evaluation and have 45 days to build a working system.

    lol

    Yes it is a ***** to make the components. But its worth it for the small footprint and boot speed, you only need to do it once.

    I have made components for iTunes, FreeDrive etc to work on my Embedded image. I next will try to maybe make Centrafuse work with Embedded, or start my own front end. (C# ).

    It's easy to build images, but a huge pain in the *** to try to hnt down all the necessary things to make any software actually work. I tried figuring out what I needed to get Frodo player to work in XPe, and at the time the modules/libraries or whatever they're called didn't exist yet for XPe.

    Just wondering how much success you've had getting everyday used carputer apps like iGuidance, Frontends, etc to work?
    Well until you get Centrafuse, some other frontend, and iGuidance to work - I don't see the majority of people here interested in running XPe. I've been interested in hosting a carputer-related XPe information section on www.mobile-effects.com
    I tried to learn it myself, but never got any images that were actually functional to work. If you are interested in creating some articles that would help the masses - let me know.

    It's not that I don't like XPe, I just think it's too hard for the average n00b (me).

    I wasnt trying to convert everyone to useing Embedded, i just wondered why you dont.

    The answer is: its too difficult for the average joe, or just not worth the bother for cheaper boot times.

    It seems like a good idea for carputer retailers.

    What would it take to get CF+IG working do you suppose?

    I've obviously spent a lot of time with XPe. It's not hard when you understand how the components interact with each other and once you know what components you need for your device. The only way to make a licensed image is with a licensed copy of the development tools. That's the $900 IntellaWorks was talking about. If I were a commercial developer I would definitely go with XPe...actually, I'd probably go with WinCE instead. It's cheaper and can do whatever you need a CarPC to do.

    I've a trouble with mine. I get a note that isn't a boot disk.
    I don't know whats going wrong. Isn't there a place where I can download a demo version?

    @konnichiwa: Couldn't you write a little manual?

    MSDN has tons of examples on how to configure and run an XPe image. The best thing to do is use VirtualPC or VMWare to get started.
