you should get a faster CF card like the SanDisk ExtremeI, UltraII or ExtremeIII. You need to install EWF (search this forum for instructions) and not use a paging file. Also, get the Logicsupply.com CF-IDE adapter.
ok im new to all this carpc situation but im having quite good knowlege of operating systems
here is my problem
im using a epia m-1000 mobo for my carpc installation stripped win xp pro sp1 using nlite and im trying to use 2x cf kingston 80x 1gb each. I have varius samsung cf to ide readers but im always having the same problem
when i use my 3'' hdd in fat 32 my os booting time is 7 to 10 sec from os start to login . when i transfer the system to the cf cards th esystem takes almost 25 sec to boot and 7 to 10 min to past welcome screen
i have read about mini logon here but i cannotfind it anywhere to download it not enen in a winxpe installation cd i have downloaded so pls advice
any othe tricks you may think maybe work? its not virtual me and 1 gb cf cause the secont cf is for swap only use ( i use 512mb ddr and 1 gb cf fat 32 for vm only) checked for any potencial damage to cfs or controllers but all works fine .
any help will be welcomed and thank you all in advance

thanks for reply but im not think that is a cf speed problem
after all im using Compact Flash to IDE adapter - Direct Plug 40pin IDE
CFDISK.5H with is based to samsung system (system recognize it like samsung cf on bios)
all tests indicates that i loose maybe 3% of original disk speed with the cf adapter
ewf maybe is a good start to check thanks
im using the kingston elite pro and here are the speed test so i dont know if a new cf will make any good (as i think those i allready own are good for the job)
here are the datasheet for the cf and a test against a sandisk ultra

I've tried different CF-IDE adapters and the Logicsupply version was the fastest. Yes, there was a difference. The ExtremeI/UltraII are the fastest cards out there. That test you mentioned was using the UltraI, not UltraII. Trust me, I've done a lot of work on CF cards.
Take a look at this chart: http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/mul...?cid=6007-6133
your Kingston Elite Pro averages about 4.8MB/s read rate versus 11MB/s of an UltraII. Also, with EWF (which you need anyways if you're using flash) you'll not be writing to the disk anymore which will give you even more speed (since writing to flash is slow).
i aggree now about the speed problem but let me tell you what i have manage late last night
as i allready told i have started the whole istallation to a 2,5 hdd so after many trying of just copying files to a allready formated cf i have just made active my cf (plain fisk) and then i have used a clone tool from hiren boot cd to clone the os partition into the cf
it worked boot time until welcome screen is almost 4 sec (from bios) but im still having trouble to pass the welcme screen after that . i have downloaded also the winxpe in a try to locate mini logon and ewf files but no luck at all
are the files places for download someplace or anyone can send then to thomasd@vivodinet.gr
regards
the problem now seems to be a stuck on windows preparing screen (the one that shows before actual welcome ,the one saids windows is starting up it stuck on windows logo and does nothing else )
ps i have turned Virtual memory off and i have no troubles booting from Hdd ( no speed impact detected and to the clone test my sf have average speed of 151mb/sec.....can be that true)???
