Interesting XPe update...

Interesting... The question is how does the USB boot work? Will it allow for full speed USB2 booting or will we be stuck at USB1.1 speeds through the boot process? Last time I checked most our bioses started USB booting at USB1.1 speeds. Can this be switched by the OS?

It's not OS dependent...It's all the BIOS. I can boot via USB 2.0 on my mobo's with PhoenixBIOS or AMIBIOS. Award doesn't support hi-speed.

Bummer. In theory it seems that a clever programmer should be able to load the bare minmum of the OS to get a usb2 device driver loaded and working and then the rest of the OS could be loaded. I wonder if anyone in the Linux world has done or tried anything like this? I know... the easier solution is to get a board that supports USB2.0 booting. :-(
