    Soundblaster usb soundcard volume

I have a question. When I turn the computer on, sometimes the sound is loud, and sometimes its not. It seems to be driver related, but I have latest soundblaster drivers. Its a usb soundblaster. I have tried increasing all volumes in the windows mixer, but it doesn't seem to help. Sometimes its perfect on startup (usually if I reboot, it corrects the issue) and sometimes its very low. I have to crank volume all the way up to get normal sound output, and this isn't even good enough if I roll down the windows. Tried turning up the preamp in winamp, but it distorts the audio. What to do?
