Question HORM is not horming (*looks at SFiorito*)

The title says it all really. HORM just isn't working.

Let me run you through what I've done so far...

I started with a 1gb CF card and installed my nLited XP SP2 straight onto it. I used the FAT16 Filesystem.

Next, I put replaced winlogon with minlogon, did the registry entries -- all works fine.

    I have EWF working,
I am using ewfntldr as my c:\ntldr
    ewfmgr is working fine
And ewf.sys is in my C:\Windows\System32\drivers folder

All registry entried were checked and double checked.

    I rebooted.

The output of ewfmgr C: looks like this:

    Protected Volume Configuration
    Type RAM (REG)
    State ENABLED
    Boot Command NO_CMD
    Param1 0
    Param2 0
    Volume ID 28 A3 28 A3 00 7E 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
    Device Name "\Device\HarddiskVolume1" [C:]
    Max Levels 1
    Clump Size 512
    Current Level 1

Memory used for data 460800 bytes
Memory used for mapping 4096 bytes

Now, I enable hibernation, create my c:\resmany.dat and run ewfmgr -commitanddisable -live. I reboot, run ewfmgr -enable, reboot, and hibernate. To my surprise windows does not resume from my hibernation point! I reboot and create the hibernation point a few times but still nothing. I thought the problem might be that because I installed straight from my XP cd to my CF card that the MBR might not have been compatible with the ewfntldr, so i bootprep'd the CF and still nothing.

The funny thing is, I have had this working. The only thing different that I have done this time is install XP to the CF instead of installing it to a HD and then copying the files.

Does anyone have any ideas? Any help greatly appreciated.

hmmm.....check the file version of your EWFNTLDR. It may be an older one that did not support HORM. You've confirmed that your resmany.dat file and hibernation options are staying between reboots?

Hi, thanks for your prompt reply!

Yes everything is there between reboots, I've rebooted 2 or 3 times consecutively just to make sure everything is staying in place.

My ewfntldr is 259kb (265,904 bytes). I got it from an EWF.zip that someone posted here and I've had it working before. I'm also sure that it's not the loader causing the problem because I get ewf restore option when i press F8 during boot.

As a test I have just reformatted the CF, bootprepped it, and copied the files back over. It boots fine just as before but still no HORM, so it cant be the MBR. Very strange.

Also, another thing I have noticed that is different to when i had it working before, the machine hibernates very quickly. Before it used to take about 20 seconds, now it is done in about 5. It's the same machine, same CF, everything.

if it's hibernating too quickly it would seem then that it's not actually writing to the disk (i.e. EWF is filtering that too maybe???)......can you just double check the file versions: ewf.sys, etc. Also look at the HDD activity light as your hibernating. Sorry i can't be of more help....

I have just finished installing the same nLited XP onto a hard drive and hibernation works fine. It must just not like installing straight to my CF for some reason. Thanks anyway SFiorito

OK now this is getting strange. As I said, I installed to a hard drive and all was working great. All I had done is get rid of WFP and the dllcache and installed minlogon. I enabled hibernation and it was all working fine. Now I have copied these files over to a CF and now it hibernates (albeit very quickly like before) but will not resume from hibernation when I switch the machine back on. This is just a regular nLited install. Has anyone had anything like this before?

    Is your CF card write-able?
