Do you have G3/UMTS/HSDPA over there? And GPRS/EDGE?

There are some PCMCIA and USB modems out there...

    Good luck

My laptop is a Macintosh, so I can't testify to connection speeds on a PC but I see no reason why they wouldn't be comparable.

I use a mobile phone for mobile internet connection by GPRS. I have also installed ONSPEED (www.onspeed.com) on my Macintosh and my connection flies!

Okay, let's be realistic. You cannot do streaming of video or audio. Very large photo files and downloads are out of it's scope. But I am browsing this and two other forums. I just went through 10-15 pages of fabrication threads including photos and i am posting this, all on my mobile connection.

Views on ONSPEED seem varied. It will NOT work with Firefox unless you configure Firefox to run through the proxy given by onspeed. Once set up correctly though it rocks. It MAY solve your problem. GPRS is also cheap. My connection is about $15 per month for unlimited data!

What cell service do you use for internet?

Any of the newer phones should give you at least 2X the speed of dial up...

    Verizon/Sprint 1XRTT = up to 144kbps
    AT&T/T-Mobile Edge = up to 236 kbps

    Verizon/Sprint EVDO = Up to 3.1mbps
    AT&T 3G = UMTS = Up to 3.6mbps
HSDPA = Up to 7.2 mbps

Of course you have to pay for the data you use...

Let me know what service you use, and I can help you find reasonably cheap fast service around where you live.

It seams that AT&T Edge service works well in your area.

Get yourself a Nokia 6555 (http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=1328) with a AT&T contract and add the Media Max 200 plan ($19.99/month extra)

So, for example, if you don't use the phone too much, get the $39.99 (450min anytime, 5K N/W, Unlimited M2M [65 Million users]) + 19.99 Media Max 200 plan (Unlimited Internet [including 3G if available], 200 text, picture, video and IM messages/month) = $60/month with basically a complete package.

After that, all you have to do is get a USB cable for the phone (if one isn't already included), download/install the latest Nokia Suite off Nokia's website (free) and hit the Internet Connect button, and you're online at speeds close to 300kbps (Edge)/2mbps (3G)

My only word of caution is, don't use up more than like 5GB/month in bandwidth, or they might terminate your data service and charge you per kilobyte... If you don't abuse it, you should be fine!!

Also, talk to others around you to see if AT&T works well in the areas you want. A lot of times, the maps that cell providers use don't really illustrate how the service works streetwise. If AT&T doesn't work that well in your area, let me know, and I will be more than happy to help you find another service that might work better.

    Hope this helps!

    not really.........(from their site)

"Available to customers who subscribe to Bell WiMAX Unplugged 3 Mbps with a 2-yr contract term. Monthly rate $19.95 for months 1 to 3, and the then currently rate (now $55, subject to change), less $5 Bundle discount, applies thereafter. 10 GB of usage per month; $1.50/additional GB, rounded up to the next GB up to $30/month."

    $55/month x24 = $1320 +$79 for the modem.
and it works on cell phone technology....
    its worth $25/month regular price

but then I dont have a cell either because of the retarded prices here in canada.

my usage for work with cell phone would come to at least $300/month
    (blackberry & plan or NOT!!)...

this is the same price as a car!!!!!...

for phone and internet....dont forget websurfing to look at pages is included in the 5gb/ month...so....
no downloading, no getting big emails, no updates, etc etc....

welcome to canada, where we get old tech, at rediculous prices, and a 2 year contract to boot!

just say no....lets get rid of these contracts...not get used to them...
    06 Altima..SER front bumper.
    CAR PC.....soon to be true!!
    Oshawa Canada!!
